The quota for this county is 47 and under the di rection of the war department a sufficient number is called for the first examinatian to allow for ex emptions. The examinations will be held in the district court room at the court house and will be conducted by the county exemption board, con sisting of Sheriff George Cain, chairman; County Clerk Geo. Mathwig has purchased a stop watch and is now waging war on the motorists who venture to go faster through the town than the speed limit provides. The speed limit in South Sioux City is ten miles an hour. Thursday night ho arrest- ed O. B. Cade and J. W. Roe, both of Sioux City. Cade, he Baid, was racing another car through the main street of town and was going about thirty-five miles and hour. He was fined $10 and costs. Rowe was fined $15. "I am going to take every speeder 1 see," said the chief. "Since tho roads through this town are becomjng smooth they offer temptation to the driver of a motor car, but we can't allow it." The Petersons surely have a fine home down there and an excellent garden, so clean that Uncle Joe has to go to his neighbors to bor row weeds for his hogs George Rasch and sister, Miss Lottie Rasch, were over from Decatur Saturday. It's now 30 years since Miss Rasch entered the government Indian ser vice, while Col. J. F. Warner was the U. S. Indian agent for the the Omahas and Winnebagoes and she has been in the service ever since, being stationed in South Dakota as field matron. Sioux City Tribune, 27: J. W. Gray, city assessor for Sii.ux City, was severely, cut about the-neck and and J. F." Budke, of Jricksbh! "Neb.; was pinned in theimidand nearly suffocated before' being rescued when the car in which they were riding skidded down a 16-foot em bankment near Jackson yesterday. Mr, Gray and Mr. Budke, in compa ny with Tom Sullivan and W. F. Hickey. of Jackson, wero examin ing the drainage ditch which runs through their farm lands when they struck a soft spot on the ridge and the machine turned turtle. The soft mud at the bottom of the ditch is said to have saved the life of Budke, as it required the united efforts of the other men to remove the machine from his body.
