from a couple of weeks' stay at Du

A daughter was born to Mr. and
Mrs. Wm. F. Oehlerking, of South
Sioux City, on Monday.
C. N. Derry and wife came over
from Boone, Iowa, Saturday and are
visitincr at the W. E. Morrison
home.
Mrs. Mary Feller of Waterbury,
Nebr., was operated on at a Sioux
City hospjtal Monday for the remo
val of her tonsils.
Mrs. Fannie Crozier and Mrs. W.
P. Warner and daughter, Kathryn,
were visitors at the Sergeant Bluffs
picnic last Thursday.
Mrs. Lorena Hilborn and son Clay
ton, returned last Friday from a two
weeks' vacation trip to their former
home at Creighton, Nebr.
The Ladies of the M. E. Church
will have a bake sale at the Ross store
Sat. afternoon Aug. 26. Bread, pies,
cakes, chickens, etc. will be on sale.
Mrs. Harry Foltz and children went
to Elk Point, S. D., last Thursday
where they will visit a couple of weeks
at the Wm. Talley home near Elk
Point.
A subsciption paper was passed
around town the past week to raise
money to clean up the lots in the
Dakota City cemetery that have been
neglected.
Rudolph Will, Claire Lambertson,
Zeta Hart, Helen Hayden, Thelma
Porter, and J. Boughn, all of
Wavne. were miestq nr. rhr S. A.
Stinson home Sunday.
Thos. J. Knepper of Walker's
Island, announces that he will be in
Dakota City Wednesday, August
30th, the day beforethe Old Settlers
Picnic, with a load of home grown
cantaloupes and watermelons.
Miss Clara Cook and her mother
have moved here from Ponca and
taken up their residence in the house
just west of the Henry Wood home.
Miss Cook will tench thf third nnd
fourth grades in our school the com
ing year.
The new building for the First
State bank at Nacora has been com
pleted and the safe and fixtures will
be installed this week. D. G. Evans,
the cashier of the new institution
states that they will be ready for
business the latter part of this week.
Mrs. T. T. Harris of South Sioux
City, and Mrs. Floyd Kilbourn, of
Pt. Arthur, Canada, were dinner
guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Geo. Cain, Wednesday, and with
Mrs. Cain they visited at the Mrs.
Mary R. McBeath home during the
afternoon.
Rev. J. A. Lowe left last Friday
morning for Femald, Iowa, for an
over Sunday visit. He will go back
to Omaha Tuesday where he will
meet his wife, who departed from
here Tuesday afternoon. They have
been visiting at the Rev. C. R. Lowe
home the past three weeks.
Mrs. R. L. Broyhill and Mrs. J. W.
McFeeters returned Friday from a
month's visit at the home of Mrs.
Broyhill's sister, Mrs. R. L. Fegley,
at Dalton, Nebr. Mrs. Fegley and
little granddaughter. Sylvia Dearintr.
accompanied them home for a visit
with relatives and friends here
abouts. The Northeastern Nehrnskn Rons
of Herman will hold their annual
picnic at Pender, Nebr., today
(Thursday) and the entire member
ship of the local lodge expects to be
in attendance. Hon. Wm. P. War
ner, republican candidate for con
gress from this district, will be one
of the speakers, on this occasion.
Geo. Wilkins and Harry Adair re
turned last Friday from a two weeks
trip to the lakes north of McGregor,
Minn., where they went in company
with S. T. Frum in his car. Mr.
Frum arrived home Sunday, return
ing by way of Shelby, Iowa, where
his wife and baby visited during his
absence. The boys report a fine
time with the fish.
The Rural Short Course in Domes
tic Science, which was held at Dako
ta City Salem Church, concluded its
four days meeting Friday with an
average daily attendance of thirty
one. These meetings were arranged
by County Agent Beckhoff co-operating
with the Ladies Aid Society and
the University of Nebraska and were
personally conducted by Miss Aural
Scott. The attendance bespoke ap
peciation and the ladies areow plan
ning another Birriilar course which
will embrace second year or more
advanced work.

in attendance at a meeting of the
republican congressional committee
of the Third djstrict.
Mrs. Earl Frederick -and two
children and her mother, Mrs. Em
erette McKernan, Jeft last Thursday
for Springfield, Nebr., to' visit at
the Frank McKernan home.
The valuation car and a cr. w of
men have been stationed hero for
several days on the C. B. & Q. rail
road, taking an inventory oi all the
property of the company, from the
ties to the lamps on the signal poles.
Rev. and Mrs. KecklcrT of "Homer,
and Mr. Keckler's mother, from Ill
inois, were Monday evening guests
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. George
Cain. Miss Dottie Cain accompan
ied them to Homer to spend the
week there during chautuaqua.
John Marshal, of Greenwood,
Nebr., and Mrs. Lettie Hampton
and two daughters, Grace and Helen,
arrived here Tuesday for a visit with
relatives and friends. They were
accompanied here from Walhill by
Mrs. Will Mason and daughter.
They made the trip in Mr. Marshal's
car.
Mrs. Alice Walters came over
from Des Moines, Iowa, last week to '
attend the Rockwell reunion which
was to have been held August 12th,
but was postpqned on account of
rain. She visited here a few days
with her brother, J. Rockwell, and
is now visiting in the vicinity of
Homer.
Frank Broyhill began the erection
of a new store room adjoining his
hardware building the first of the
week. The new part will be 24x55
feet-in size, artdillbs used for his
hardware and other-goods, while the
old part of the building will be con
verted into a garage. Burt Wood
is doing the carpenter work.
Otto Rupp, who has been confined
in the county jail the past ten days,
charged with attempting to assault
the 8-year-old daughter of C. II .
Shanks, of South Sioux City, for
whom he worked, waived examina
tion and was bound over to the dis
trict court under bonds-of $1000,
which he has been unable to furnish.
At the meeting of the board of
supervisors of drainage district No.
2 of Dakota county last Saturday
the contract for building the bridges,
seven in number, that will span the
ditches at different points, was" let
to the Beatty Contracting company,
of Blair, Nebr., at a cost of $12,000.
00. Temporary bridges will have to
be erected by the company, to serve
until they can get material on the
ground for the steel bridges.
