REVIVAL OF OLD PLAY
Years and yoars ago, "King"
Kelly pulled a play whero ho
followed Williamson right In to
tho plato on a play whero It was
apparent that the latter would
bo put out when tho catcher
would tag WlllIamBon, who
would slide In ono direction.
Kolly would Bllde tho opposito
way, and It was Impossible for
tho catcher to get both men. It
wos a play worked tlmo and
again with ono man out and a
run needed to tie the score.
Since that tlmo tbo play did
not como up until a few days
ago, when two Lincoln runners
camo Into tho plato at tho samo
tlmo when a short tly fell at tho
feet of Outfleldor Pownall of
Wichita. Pownnll throw tho
ball 'to Catcher Grlfllth aB both
men slid in at tho same time.
They made tho mistako of slid
ing In the samo direction and
Catcher Griffith's shin guards
proved mighty handy. Ho
blocked tho plato completoly and
both men woro stopped, a foot
away from tho plate. It was an
easy matter to tag both and tho
umpire would not allow a claim
of Interference. In this mannor
an outfielder threw two men out
at tho plato on tho samo play
Thero 13 no rocord of this play
ever having happened before. Of
course, tho play was not re
hearsed as Williamson and Kelly
worked It, or tho catcher could
not havo tagged both men.
