Joe btrawhorn, tor many years a popular conductor on the Omaha road, but later a resident of St. Paul died suddenly at his home Tuesday of gall stones. Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Gribble, who have been visiting at the home of their daughter, Mrs. Belle Barnett, for the past two weeks, departed Tuesday for their home at Goodwin, S.D. Jacob Neiswanger of Marshall ville, Ohio, arrived here Friday, and will make a protracted visit with his son, D. M. Neiswanger. He has spent the past three months with relatives in Kansas and Iowa. The buildings on the old Wm. Biermann farm a couple of miles southeast of town, occupied by Wm. Lorenz, will have to be moved at once if the river keeps on making in roads into the land as it has for the past week. The body of an infant babe was found on the sandbar in the river at South Sioux City Tuesday afternoon by boys in swimming. An iron bolt was tied in the bundle. Coroner Munger of Homer was notified to take care of the corpse. The volunteer Are department met Tuesday evening and adopted the constitution and by-law present ed by the committee. A number of new members signed the roll,ind an outdoor meeting was called for Wed nesday evening of this week by G. F. Broyhill, fire chief, for hose cart practice. Mrs. H. J. Oden and four children of Bellfourche, S. D., who have been visiting Mrs. Oden's sister. Mrs. Fred Lynch, for the past two weeks, departed Tuesday for Kansas City, Mo., to visit relatives there for a time. They were accompanied by Mrs. Oden's father, T. J. Hendricks, who has been here visiting here for several weeks. Elmer Smith, of this place received word the past weekthat his brother, David W. Smith, aged Gl years, had died at his home ih Black Lick, Pa., Tuesday, July 5, 1915. The deceased had been a sufferer with a complica tion of diseases for 22 years, and had been unable to work for about 18 years. He lived here for a few years some thirty years ago. He announced that he had rented his home and office at Walt hill and would soon leave on an over land trip by auto for San Diago. A license was is sued on the 7th to F. W. Singley of Sioux City and Pearl Stevens of Cor rectionville, Iowa, and one on the 10th to Louis Novak and Sarah J. Wilson both of Sioux City. A meeting was held at the court house Saturday evening and Bteps taken to reorganize the Dakota City Volunteer Fire Depatment. With the installation of the new water works system a hose cart and several hundred feet of hose was purchased for the city's use, and in order to handle the equipment successfully a drilled team of. volunteer firemen is an absolute necessity. The bolt pass ing through the roof, splintered the head of the bed, in which the girls were sleeping, but did not injure them. Other damage was done, to the extent of about $25. William Barnett, a pioneer of 1865, passed away Tuesday night at his home in Brushy Bend, at the advanced aee of 79 years. His death was due to cancer of the stom ach. i i Mr. Barnett was born in Allen's Cov.e, Pa., Aprils, 1887." He resided there until 28 years or age when he moved to Dakota county and engag ed in farming in the immediate vi cinity of his late, home, which has been his residence continuously all these years. 1 He was married to Miss Agnes Bell, of Allen's Cove,; before leaying Pennsylvania, and is survived by his wife and four sons George Barnett, of Dakota City; James Barnett, of South Sioux City; Wm. Barnett, of Sioux City, and Joe Jiarnett, resid ing at the old home; and four daugh tersMrs. Belle Blaqk, of Rushville, Neb.; Mrs. Wm. Fullon, Mrs. Her man Eble and Mrs. Chas. Blessing, all of this precinct. A brother, Jo senh Barnett. resides at the old homestead in Allen's Cove. The funeral services will be held today, Thursday, at 10 o'clock a. m. from the family home, and will be conducted by Rev. F. J. Aucock, pastor of the M E. church in this place. Bailey was clos ed Wednesday afternoon by Sheriff Cain at the request of creditors. Mr. Bailey had sold his store but is said to have failed to remove mort gages against the stock. Mr. Bailey is not to be found at the present time. Sioux City' wholesale houses took legal action to close the store and the new purchasers stand a chance of losing heavily -in the deal. M. E.
