A score of South Sioux City ladies were entertained at the Mrs. W. S. home here last Thursday evening. Why go hungry when you can get a good lunch between meals at Van de Zedde's, in the Schriever store. Mrs. S. L. Keller and daughter Lelia of Sioux City, visited here last Thursday at the Mrs. J. N. Hamil ton home. In next week's Herald a unique proposition will be made by the M. E. Pastor concerning his special meetings. It will interest every one of our readers. Prof. Conrad Jacobson, principal of our schools, has accepted an olFer as superintendent of the schools at Bancroft, Nebr. at a flattering in crease in salary. Dakota City Pharmacy has added a full line of magazines and periodi cals. Will take subscriptions for anything in this line. Deliveries made promptly. Edward Shortley, who has been visiting here at the home of his unele, Richard Shortley for a month past, left Monday for his home in Toronto, Canada. Guy Hileman left Monday for a few days visit at Hinton, Iowa, at the home of his niece, Mrs. John Barnes, and from there will return to his home at Maxbass, N. D. Married, by F. J. Aucock, at the M. E. Parsonage during the past week, Charles A, Tripp and Frances L. Harkness, both of Akron, la., and Isaac J. Berg and Muriel Friend, both of Sioux Fall, S. D. Geo. W. Sheibley was a passenger to Hot Springs, S. D. Monday even ing, where he is spending the winter at the soldiers home at that place. He had been down on a short visit with relatives in this locality. The Mid-West Bank, Sioux City, is growing so rapidly that it has provided a balcony and two rooms for patrons of its safe deposit vaults. Its vaults have A. D. T. electric pro tection, making them absolutely burglar proof. Special meetings will soon be held at the M. E. Church. The Pastor, Rev. F. J. Aucock, will preach spec ial sermons the next two Sundays, and commencing March 14th, will hold a two weeks-series of meetings. Special announcement will be found in next weeks issue. Bert Harden returned last Wednes day from Rochester, Minn, where he had been for several weeks with his sister, Mrs. Eva L. Orr, who was operated on at the Mayo Bros, hospi tal for the removal of kidney stones. She underwent the second operation two weeks ago, and now is rapidly recovering and expects to return home soon. In remitting for his Herald, Wm. Reninger writes from Chambers, Nebr. that they all like their new home real well. They had good crops last year, and have had lots of snow this winter, which will help start crops for another year. The snow was united there in many places six or eight feet deep, which made traveling rather difficult. Judge McKinley on Saturday united in marriage, M. I. Petty and Camilla Parks, both of Sioux City. On Washington's birthday he tied the nuptial not for Carl J. Butler and Florence L. Hackett, both of Sioux Falls, S. D and on Wednes day, Harold Dean of Lynn Grove, la. and 'ary Krouse of Peterson, la. were joined in marriage by the Judge. A license to wed wes issued to John W. Elizebeth Neiswanger, af hfr home in arshalville, Ohio, sh. wus 71 years of age, and had been in ieeblo health for several months. Deceased was a sister of S. A. Stin- son, also oi this place. Bert Reed of Goodwin, Nebr., who with seven applicants took the rural carriers civil service oxamination before Postmaster Ream last fall, received his grades along with the others the past week, and if the ap pointment should be made on the strength of the examination and not on "political pull" he will be the next carrier at South Sioux City to succede W. H. Meeker, who is scry ing as a substitute. Bert E. Parker writes from Can istota, S. D. while remitting for the Herald, that they had good crops there last fall. His corn made an average of 55 bushels to the acre and potatoes 200 boshels, which is not a bad yield for any locality. He also enclosed a post card picture of his handsome new farm residence, built during the past year, and also the other farm buildings on the place, which from their appearance would indicate that the wave of prosperity had not missed them. nil.!....! n-.f- District Court. SCHOOL NOTE8. The fifth and sixth grades gave n very interesting patriotic program liiflt Monday afternoon in honor of Washington and Lincoln. Several of of the boys depicted western cowboy in a very vivid manner. Another number, a mixture of Physical cul ture and old daddy's "rheumatics" was easily shown to be physical tor ture for him. A duet and several songs were given, but best of all was tho flag drill by seven girls, and it was beautiful. Tho program closed by serving eoiTec nnd doughnuts to visitors. The afternoon was enjoyed by all, thanks to Miss Fleming's fine work. March tho fifth a joint program by the third and fourth, and the first and second grades will be given in the assembly room. This pro gram will bo very interesting, being in charge of Misses Robertson and Ross respective teachers of those rooms. The program will consist of "Cinder Maid" by the third and fourth grades and the Virginia Reel by the first and second grades. Now scolars in school are, Ida and John Marshall, and John and George Sanford. Tho primary room pupils are studing Washington and Lincoln by means of the morning talks. This week they are-studing Longfellow. Language and hand work are con nected with these studies. A portable platform has been built in the assembly room. The seniors are choosing a class )lay early that they may have it well in hand before the rush of the last month of school comes on. Barbara Neiswanger, Ailcen Stin son, and Margaret Shriever took turn about substituting for Miss Fleming, who was sn -v bound for two days last week in Laurel, her home. Margaret Chrievcr was elected reporter of the senior class. The civics class attended court to observe court proceedure. Last Saturday evening a high school party to which all tho teachers were invited. Almost everybody came in colonial costume. All had a very pleasant time. Next Saturday, Feb. 27 at 8 p. m., the high school will give a program to which everybody is invited: This means you who are now reading this announcement. In this pro gram Mutt and JeiT will appear. The Pumpkin Case of Guff vs. MulT will be forever and definitely settled. The Dakota City male quartette will give just two numbers. Miss Walsh of Sioux City will give several select readings. We are sure you will en joy this program. If you dont enjoy it Mutt and Jeff say you better call the doctor, for if you laugh we laugh with you, if yon cry we laugh at you. Admission, 10 cents for those in sixth grade or below, 15 cents for all others in school, and 25 cents for all not in school. Prof. Conrad Jacobson has been elected superintendent of schools in Bancroft. This is a fine promation for him. Definite plans for the field meet are being made.
