tute with Thurston county. Hereto
fore it has cost the county $100, while
this year and allowance of only $50
was asked for. The joint institute
will be held at Fender this year, and
will open on August 29th. A splen

the first of tbe week, after a few days'
delay, on account of laok cf materal.

been laid id this place this summer,

It begins to look now as though Da
kota City would soon have electric
street car servioe to Sioux City over
the Foye line in fact the manage
ment has promised to have tbe line
equipped to this place by tomorrow
night. However, the work of electri
fying the line is progressing rapidly
and in the course of a week regular
service will be put on. The rails
have been bonded to this plaoe and
the trolly poles are nearly all set, and
the stringing of the cable will be but
the work of a few days, and wheu this
is done a schedule will be put on this
place, transferiug to the Sioux City
Service Companies line at South Sioux
City.

adds that "they have got all of tbe
western country they want, the wind
has blown for four months, but the
weather has been fairly cool and

Mrs Theodore Bliven and children
arrived home Wednesday from their
overland trip to Rock county. They
parted company with Theodore at Ran
dolph and took the train home, while
he will finish the trip by team aud

Tbe fierce wind and rain storm of
Tuesday knocked down considerable
corn in this vinoinity. Besides the
damage to the crops many limbs were
broken from the shade trees about
town. One of the big corn cribs at the
Fields and Slaughter elevator was
blown over.

Result of the Primary Election.
The primary election on Tuerday
passed off with very little enthusiasm,
only about one-fourth of the voters of
tbe county turning out to exercise
their right like the women at school
election.
In the county J J McAllister was
nominated by tbe democrats for county
attorney with no opposition; the re
publicans by writing in the name of
R E Evans have nominated him for
the office, but it is a question whether
he will accept it.
For county commissioner in the 8rd
distriot, J 11 Rockwell of Homer and
Nelson Feauto of Emerson tied with
34 votes each, while Geo W Thanker,
tbe democratic aspirant, received 25.
The returns, outside of the county,
indicate tbe nomination of Aldrich for
governor by tbe republican, and Dahl
man for the democrats, iiurkett won
a decided victory over Whedon for U
S senator on tbe republican ticket, and
Hitchcock, on the democratic ticket,
defeated Metcalfe. Boyd, for con
gress, defeated Brian on the republi
cau ticket, and Latta was tbe demo
cratio choice, with no opposition, l or
state senator, Wiltse was nominated
by tbe republicans without opposition,
while Niok Fritz was the choice of the
democrats. For representative the
republicans named Boughn and the
democrats McNamara.
It will take the official canvas to
determine tbe result on the state
ticket, whioh will require several days
yet.
