pretty minnow or the bead of a scareJ

Oakland Independent! Last Friday
a big and jolly party from here went
to the mucb-talked-of Bad coming sum
mer resort np in the extreme north'
eastern part of tho state. Crystal
Lake. The party went to have a
pleasant time of outdoor life and to as
certain if it all was true that had been
said about Crystal Lake and surround
ings. The Darlington train for Sioux
City, which leaves here at 10:15 a m,
was boarded and in abont an hour the
picnicers wero brought right to the
shores of the lake. The train stops at
the lake going and coming for the con
venience of pienicers at the lake, if ar
rangements are mado beforehand.
Well, the party found a nleasant
time boating, bathing and fishing all
the day long. Basket dinners had
been brought and the eating was rel
ished with an appetite born of active
outdoor life. Atabout;7:30 the Bur
lington train oarue along and picked
the party up and from the good report
the members of the reconnoitering
forces bring back there will be other
parties to follow. Those who went
were: Mr and Mrs W 8 Bwanson. Mr
and Mrs Geo W Minier, Mr and Mrs
A B r-edon, Mr and Mrs S A Nelson ;
uesdames U K Cull, F Simon and Lu
oile Menefee ; Misses Ruth Cull, Mary
Wells, Fern Peden.Fav Simon. Ethel
Hopkins, and Messrs Oscar Samsom,
Howard Peden, Francis Simon and
Myron Myers. The convenience with
which Crystal Lake can be reached for
a day's outing will draw many there in
the future. The cost and the time re
quired to get there easily places that
resort for picnic parties ahead of some
other places where pleasure aekra
have been wont to go.
Sioux City Journal, 1st: A boat
club with a membership drawn from
the clnbs now maintaining houses on
the Big Sioux river is one of the possi
bilities for Crystal lake next year.
Tbe site spoken of in coneotion with
such a club is Island beaoh. The agi
tation for a house started with mem
bers of the old clubs and has been
gaining many backers. The faot tl at
crowds of the former river adherents
have been making two and three trip1
weekly to the lake and found none of
the conveniences afforded at the club
houses on the Big Sioux river cave rise
to toe talk. Boosters for the club
house hope to have the matter of or
ganization well nnder way in the fall
so that work can be stared on the lake
front next spring. The attractiveness
of the lake, coupled with better rail
accomodations, has cut down the at
tendanoe at Riverside in a marked de
gree. Bathing partios have found the
bathing beaoh worth while, and th
fact that the beach runs far out before
any stepoff is reached removes the dan
ger that marks bathing in tho Big
Bioux river, 'ihe movement to buy up
frontage property on Island beach Lai
been so strong that on Saturday Frank
o wagner purchased the last lot in the
platted portion ef the lake front, i
site for the talked of clubhouse coul
be secured on the frontage not platted
Ihe Sunday crowds at the lake have
been large, and even on the week day
the beaoh draws good attendance.
The boosters for the club offer as rea
son why sueh a clubhouse would draw
well the matter of exclusivenesti which
now is secured at Riverside through
tue clubhouses. Travel to Crystal
lake yesterday was the hoaviest in the
history of the 8ionx City Service com
pany. It is estimated that 2000 per
sons were at the lake. Many did not
secure transportation by the electrio
lines, as there wero carriages and an
tomobiles going there in a steady
stream, Throughout ihe afternoon
tue oars run by tue service company
were taxed to the limit. The lines on
the Riverside park run suffered a de'
pletion of travel during the afternoon
but made np the balance last night

Are Doctors Any Good?
Foolish question! Yet some people act as if a medicine
could take the place of a doctor! The best medicine In
the world cannot do this. Have a family doctor, consult
him frequently, trust him fully. If we did not believe
doctors endorsed Ayer's Cherry Pectoral for coughs and
colds, we would not offer it to you. Ask your doctor.
No alcohol in this cough medicine. ICAuerCcLowMi
