Sionx City Tribune, 2nd: When C
W Schwartz, proprietor of a saloon at
Nacora, Nebraska, returned home from
Sionx City yefltprday after being; ab
sent all day, ho found that hi bride of
one month had fled taking with her all
of Iih rendy cash, which amounted to
$311. No parting word was left by
tho bride; no intimation was made to
Schwartz's relatives that she was going,
and when tho truth dawned upon the
husband he was grief-stricken. Valk-
ng to Hubbard, Schwartz secured a
livery rig and drove to Sioux City,
reaching here at l'l:'M this morning,
and located his wife in a rooming
hourte at 709 Fourth, street, but she re
fused him admittance and wonld not
talL to him. All night long the din
trended husband stood guard on the op
posite side of tho street, r.ud when shn
attempted to enter a hack about 7 :IJ0
o'clock this rooming he rushed across
to her and begged her to return with
I. im to Nacora, but without so much
as Bpcakinir to bim. she jumped into
the vehicle and ordered the driver to
hurry. Running as fast as a he could,
Schwartz followed the carriage for
several blocks and thou gave up the
ohase in dispair. Covered with mud
from his long drive and haggard in
appearance from grief and lots of sleep,
Schwartz went to police headquarters
and related bis story to Judge Sam
Page who issued a warrant for the ar
rest of Mrs Schwartz, charging her
with grand larceny. Dotectivo Curtis
was detailod oo the case, and, accom
panied by Schwartz, went out to look
for the runaway bride. "I don't care
for the money," declared Schwartz,
"It's the woman I want, I can't under
stand why she ran away. She did not
like it because I was in the saloon
business, and I promised her I wonld
sell out and wonld have been out of
the business by May 1st when we were
coming to Sioux City atd start a
hotel " Mrs Schwartz was Miss Bes
sie Stuart, of Council Bluffs, and was
married to Sonwartz in that oity on
Feb, 27 of this year. She formerly
resided iu Sioux City. "Not a cross
word had passed between us since we
had been mairicd," paid Schwartz.
When I left home yesterday she
seemed unusually happy because I had
found a purchaser for my saloon and
would be out of tho business in another
month. I had $311 in the cash register,
and this I gave to her to keep until I
returned. She asked me not to stay
in Sioux City very long and I Lurried
