The Dakota City Schools close 'to
day for the summer vacation. The
primary departments picnicked on the
school ground, while the upper grades
spent the day at Crystal lake.
Albert House came down from
Spencer, Neb, for a few days visit
with relatives. While here he will
superintend the erecting of a monu
ment at the grave ot his departed wile,
formerly Nellie lirasneld, who was
hurried in the cemetery here about a
year and a half ago:
Judge W P Warner aud wife passed
through here Tuesday euroute from
Omaha to Minneapolis, where Mr
Warner ces on business connected
with the estate of the late John (Ira
ham, a brother of Mrs Warner. Mr
Warner expects to move Lis family
here from Oamha next week, to reside
during the sumniir.

Homer Thursday, after spending a

Walter and John Hileman returned
Saturday from a trip to Rapid City, S
D, where they each tiled ou a piece of
land. They will return in the fall and
take up their residence there.
I he bioux (Jity buse ball team is
now drawing crowds from this side of
the river. The series of four games
with Omaha ends today. Tomorrow
they take on Lincoln for four games,
and then Denver and Pueblo for four
games each.

Quite a numbes from town from
town attended the school picnic at
Crystal lake Monday, given by Miss
Gwen Rockwell, teacher of the Meri
dian school.' It was intended to hold
the picnic Friday, the closing day of
the school, but on account of the rain
a postponment was taken until
Monday.
A short session of district court was
held hero this week by Judge Guy T
firuves. The most of the business
traushcted was hearing divorce cases.
A divorce was granted to Mrs Wm

inspector of the bureau of animal in
dustry. Under these orders no cattlo
or sheep can be permitted to pass over
the Combination It ridge from the state
of Nebraska unless the driver of such
cattle or sueep nas a permit from a
United States inspector. Permits can
be secured by applying to the United
States ltsprctor at the Exchange
Building at the Sioux City stock yards
in person or by letter or telephone,
such permits are good for ten days
after they are iKSued.
1 ne gasoline street car which was
built at Hurvey, III, for the Foje line,
arrived in biuux City last Sunday, and
the first of the week was unloaded
from the flat car on which it was
shipped, and was umbered up pre
paratory 10 matting us initial trip ever
the line. Ross Johnson, whom Mr
Foye sent to the factory to familiarize
himself with the mechanism of the car
accompanied it here, and with the
expert sent out by the factory, is now
giving the ear a try-out. The llrMt
trip to this place was made Wednes
day afternoon and the new rig worked
to perfection. To -nil ' appearance it
is as easily controlled and handled as
mix electric car. As soon as the cir is
thoroughly tested a time schedule will
be announced, which will be made to
but accommodate the traveling pub

Rue Altemns began work repairing
the river bank along his farm south of
town Thursday. A party from Omaha
who hits had considerable experience
in that kind of work is overseeing the
job. The style of' work consists of a
wire netting SO feet wide strung along
the bank in the water, which tends to
catch the drift and stop the erosion.
If the work proves satisfactory on the
Altemus farm it will be extended north
to the townsite.
