HEAD of Nebraska * An Astute, Able, Clear headed Business Man BEEBE’S CONVEn.-Mur* The Rev. J. L. Beebe who was a spellbinder for the Civic Alli ance during the primary cam paign. has been expelled from or resigned from membership in the Omaha Klavern of the Ku Klux Klan. There is some doubt as to just how there came a part ing of the ways between the rev erend gentleman and the hooded hoodlums, yclept “Imperial Knights of the Invisible Em pire.” One version is that he re signed, hot with indignation;; because the Kalipt Kook, or Sec retary Cook, had, contrary to the sacred traditions of the or der, disclosed Mr. Beebe’s mem-, l>ership therein. Another ver sion, and this comes from the j opposition, is that the Rev. Mr.; Beebe, “violated his oath as a klansman” and, therefore, was figuratively speaking, thrown through the “imperial” transom, or in more vulgar parlance, wa^ “fired.” Be it as you will, there are now “oaths” sotto voce, and denunciations from both sides. Beebe is out with the klan and vice versa. Mr. Beebe has discovered that the klan is “despotic;” “un-dem ocratic, un-American and un-1 Christian,” and cannot maintain j his self-respect and longer re-, main a member, we beg your : pardon, a subject- of the In visible Empire. Of course, the klan is all that j Beebe says it is and much more, j This he knew or must have known when he swore allegiance to the Invisible Empire. He knew then, if the had a thimbleful of brains, that it is ignorant, intol erant and hypocritical and sacri-; Igious. It is contrary to the; Christian religion. The founda tion stones of which are love and good will for all men, not only to the good and gentle, but also to the forward. Christiani ty proclaims that all men are brethren. The klan teaches that j all men are brethren, provided that they are white. Protestant, Gentiles. Negro, Roman Catholic or Jew is arbitrarily excluded from the pal? of brotherhood by the klans rnan’s code. How, therefore, any man, who calls himself a Christian can be a member of i this hate-breeding, soul-blight ing order passes our understand- j ing. We hope that the Rev. Mr. % % | HAVE YOU TRIED WARE’S HOME-MADu | CANDY? \ V V X Special for Saturday and X £ .Sunday, | ^ Cocoanut Brittle, 28c Lb. j; j Ware’s fj Candy |[ Kitchen | X 1516 North 24th St. Beebe is truly and sincerely con verted and that other Protes tant ministers, who are subjects of the Imperial Wizard may al so turn from the evil of their ways. Mr. Beebe’s renunciation and denunciation of the klan throws a brilliant illumination upon the Civic Alliance, which has been ehaiged, and we believe, truth fully charged, with being only a camouflage for the klan. It j is rather significant, in this con-1 ! nection, that in the three sec ! lions of the city where the klan ! : membership is strongest there ; the candidates endorsed by the' j Civic Alliance polled a heavy vote. Put two and two together in the light of “Brother” Beebe’s conversion, which we hope is genuine and sincere, and your ! conclusion ought not to wrong. PROBATE NOTICE. H. J.
