II, Robinson on Thursday afternoon. The Li Vega Banda entertained at a whist party at the residence of Mr*. Alma Fort, 2715 Ohio St., Wedneslay evening, January 20. Prize* were awarded a* fol lows: Mrs. Winifred Johnson, first prize; Miss Vinnie Hicronymou*. second prize, and Mr*. Anna Bogus got the booby prize. Thirty-six guest* were present. The Young Matron’s Social Society met at the home of Mr*. Luther Whyte, 959 Nortli 28th Ave,, Wednesday, January 27. A delicious luncheon was served. The next meeting will he held at 2817 N.! 2Wh St., Wednesday, February 10, at which time Mr*. R. C. Young and Mr*. K Saunders will be hostesses. Re sure to see the little play, “Her Choice”, given by the Junior group of the Girls’ Friendly Society of St. Philip's church in the guild moms of the church. The Royal Duke's Clyfi entertained at the Lake Theatre, Wednesday night. There were fifty of the Dukes. Sam Cooksey and L-wis White gave a Charleston ex hibit. Miss Ferguson has enrolled as a student in the State university. Robert Carroll of Oak Ridge, W. Vu,. who has been visiting his grand uncle, Jesse Carroll, left Wednesday for Hunt ington, W. Va., where he has accepted an important and well-paying position with an insurance company. W, 11. David, proprietor of The Lillie Wonder Barber Shop, who has been quite ill for the past month at bis home, 2220. Clark street, is improving. Mrs. D Thompson, of St. Joseph, Mo., a friend of Mr. J. H. Brooinfild from his boyhood dayB, was the guest at his home Hast week . She left for her home Satur day. A (laughter was horn to 1 Jr. and Mrs.; John A. Singleton last Saturday morning at the Nicholas Seim hospital. Mother and child are doing well. The Executive Committee of the Colored Commercial club held its regular monthly meeting at the club rooms Monday night. Important business was transacted and lour new members were enrolled. Mr. Lynch has moved his tailoring establishment into the building adjoining the Alhambra Theatre where he will be; pleased to see all bis old eustomrs and many new ones. Frank J. Liverpool is very ill at his1 home, 1117 North Twentieth street. Hr is perfectly helpless and is growing per ceptibly weaker. Get together. LINCOLN NEWS AND COMMENT Graduates from Lincoln High Corinne Elisabeth, the sixteen-year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. 0. W. Ferguson, graduated with the Janu ary class from Lincoln High school on Friday night, January. 22, having com pleted the four-year course in three and a half years. While in high school she was a member of the Girls’ Ath letic association, played on her class < hockey and soccer teams, and was in the Zoology anil Household Art clubs. whose membership was based upon scholarship. Miss Ferguson en tered-the University of Nebraska in February. Mrs. Alice Cowans is reported im proving some from illness. — Mr,. Harry Franklin is doing well at hospital. Mr. Wm. Scott is reported to be quite ill yet at his home. John W. Marshall spent a few day in Denver, Colo., last week. Mesdames Arthur Williams, Leon ard Forbes and Maurice Copeland were hostesses at a graduation party given Thursday evening, January 28, in honor of Miss Cleopatra L. Whit' at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice L. Copeland, 2400 Holdrege street. About thirty-five guests were pres ent. Refreshments were served and lovely presents were received. Miss Cleopatra L. White received her bachelor ,of science degree in home economics at the University of Ne braska. Mr. Wm. Scott is reported improved at his home. Mrs. W. W. Mosley .was agreeably surprised when a group of friends, chaperoned by Mrs. Alma Wiley, Mrs. Marie Copeland, Miss Zurretta Doty assembled at their home, ].THD Rose street, Saturday night. About twen ty-one persons were present. Lun cheon was served. The hostess wa presented with tokens of friendship by the crowd. Rev. H. W. Botts made presentation. Prof. Amos Walker of .St. Joe, Mo., -pent several days in the city the past week on account illness of hi, ,sister, Mrs. M. Stith. The funeral of Mrs. Maude S. Gates, wife of Lora P. Gates, who passed away Monday, January 18th, at their home, 2314 Orchard, was held at the home Wednesday afternoon, January 20. Rev. I. B. Smith officiated, as sisted by Rev. M. C. Knight.
