Mrs. M. P Reeves, 2536 Parker St.,,
was called to the bedside of her sis
ter in Moberly, Mo., two weeks ago
last Monday. Mrs. Reeves reports
that her sister is improving slightly.
Miss Alma Jackson, who has been
visiting her aunt. Mrs. Carl Framp
*on, 518 'N. 14th Street, for the last
month, recently returned to her home
in Kansas City, Mo. Miss Jackson
was very' much impressed with Oma
ha. i
Mr. William Barbee, who made his
home in Omaha for a long while died
at the county hospital with pneu
monia last week. The body was tak
en to his former home, St. Ix>uis, Mo.,
for burial. Mrs. Irene Barbee, his
wife, accompanied the body to St.
Louis. The death of Mr. Barbee
came as a surprise; as he was ill for
only one week and it was thought
that he was improving rapidly.
Mrs. Sylvester Brooks, Sioux City,
Iowa, who visited with her sister,
Mrs. Tobiatha Matthews, 523 N. 15th
St., returned to her home last Thurs
day. Mr. Sylvester Brooks, her hus
band, who was here with her, return
ed Sunday, March 1st.

ously ill at his home, 2885 Miami St.,|
since Monday, is slightly improved.
Mrs. Minnie Hibbs of 3105 Dewey
avenue , who has been ill for several
days, is much better and hopes to be:
able to be out soon.
Miss Teressa Jones who was ill for|
some weeks is quite well aguin and
has resumed her dancing classes at
St. Benedict’s Community house.

Mrs. Anna Williams of Duluth,
Minn., arrived in the city last Thurs-i

home Thursday evening.

Mo., entertained six guests at a
birthday breakfast Tuesday, March
3rd at the home of Mr. and Mrs. G. M.
Adams, 2301 North 27th street in hon
or of Mrs. Adams’ birthday. Mrs. Ad
ams was the recipient of many beauti
ful gifts.
A fine daughter was born U> Mr.
and Mrs. Roscoe Miller at laird Lister
hospital Friday, February 27th. Moth
er and child dong fine and Roscoe is
one of the happiest and proudest dads
in the country.
Mrs. Addie Hopkins who was detain
ed at home last week by illness has re
turned to her place of employment.
Mr. and Mrs. Hayward Bascom have
gone to housekeeping in a cozy little
duplex at Twenty-seventh and Lake
street.
Mrs. C. A. Williams, wife of the pas
tor of St. John’s A. M. F„ church, who
is a patient in the Methodist hospital,
is reported to be getting on nicely al
though still quite ill.

Ouincv. Ill . after a four months stay
necessitated by the illness of her mo

Mrs. Ellis, mother of Mrs. Anna
I.awson. 1124 South Eighth street, is
confined to her bed by a serious ill
ness. Mrs. Ellis is one of the pioneer
residents of Omaha and widow of the
late John Ellis.

-treet, who has been ill since last Sun
day. is able to be up but is still con
fined to her home.
The Woman’s Auxiliary of the
Church of St. Philip the Deacon held
an interesting meeting last Thursday

Cunnighan Wilson, son of Mr. and

Mrs. S. K. Brownlow was hostess at
a delightful dinner at) her attractive
residence, 2810, Ohio street, Monday
afternoon at 5 o’clock, complimentary
to Robert S. Abbott and Bishop Carey
of Chicago. Other guests were the
Rev. and Mrs. Frederick Divers, the
Rev. C. A. Williams, Mfs. Harlow and
C. C. Galloway.

been suffering from an injured knee,
sustained by falling on a cement floor,
some weeks ago, is much better.

Mi - henna Williams, one of the
featured members of the east of Dave
Marion’s Own Shrow at the Gayety
Theatre this week, is America's fore
most Colored star, and is called “The
Syncopated Queen.” Miss Williams
is a jazz singer for the Columbia
Phonograph Company, making Colum
bia Records, and is a most popular
artist. Among her latest song suc
cesses being "It Makes No Difference
Now;” “Tease and Squeeze Man of
Mine,’ “Got to Cool My Doggies Now”
and “You Don't Relieve I Ixwe You.”
Miss Williams has made a hig hit in
Columbia Hurlesque, and her synco
pated singing is sure to delight Gay
ety audiences this week. She will of -1
fer a number of her successes as her
contribution to the success of next
week’s attraction—-Dave Marion and
Mis Own Show which opens its week
of twice daily performances with Sun-j
day’s matinee and promises to be one
of the season’s most important events.
This is none other than Dave Marion’s
“Own Show,” in which this likeable
comedian will again portray the char
acter of "Snuffy the Cabman.” Gor
geous stage settings, glittering cos
tumes and marvelous electrical ef
fects are always expected in Mr. Mar
ion’s offerings, and this year he is
said to have surpassed all former ef
forts. Twenty-seven magnificent
stage settings are promised with fif
teen changes of costume, twenty mu
sical numbers and eighteen unusually
attractive choristers. There is also a
cast of fifteen, including Mr. Marion
and such well known vaudeville, musi
cal comedy and burlesque artists as
Josephine Sabel, Miss Richie Covey,
Frank Du Teil, Charles “Tramp" Mc
Nally, Winnie Clifton, Irene Cornell,
Fred Reeb and others.

New York, March 13.—Thomas Al
bert White, Negro veteran of the U.
S. Army, gassed in France, who wa
denied hospital accomodation because
of his color, has been placed in the
Nutional Sanatorium at Dayton, Ohio,
according to a letter from E. O. Cross
man, Medical Director of the Veteran's
Bureau, sent to the National Associa
tion for the Advancement of Colored
People, 69 Fifth Avenue, New York.
The N. A. A. C. P. early in Feb
ruary wrote the Veteran’s Bureau ask
ing why this veteran was refused ac
comodation in the government hospi
tals at Dawson Springs, Ky. and Bea
con, N. Y. The Veteran’s Bureau pro
mised an immediate investigation of
the case and under date of March 2,
writes the N. A. A. C. P. as follows:
"Further reference is made to your
telegram of February 11, 1925, con
cerning the hospitalization of the a
bove named beneficiary of the U. S.
V. Bureau.
"Supplementing previous Bureau
communication regarding this case,
you are informed that according to a
report just received from the Pitts
burgh Regionul Manager, transporta
tion and cards of admission to the
National Sanatorium, Dayton, Ohio,
were issued to this patient on Febru
ary 24, 1925. It is believed that his
hospitalization has been accomplished.
“It is desired to thank you for your
interest in this case.”
The per capita consumption of milk
is forty-nine gallons.
