Gipson, Chas. Beck, Tom Scaggs, R. Seward and Miss Myrtle Lahn motored to Omaha Thursday for the Ak-Sar-Ben. They returned yesterday. Mrs. B. G. Evans left Monday for St. Joseph, Mo., to visit her mother. She will remain about a week. Mr. Lucian Mason, of Sweet Spring, Mo., was the guest of his brother, W. A. Mason, last week. Mr. Chas Crews is very ill. Mrs. Mae Costers, of St. Louis, is visiting Mrs. V. B. Young. Many so cial affairs have been given in htr honor. Thursday of last week Mrs. V. B. Young entertained at cards; Monday Mrs. J. C. Cooley also enter tained at cards; Wednesday a delight ful dancing party was given by Mrs. Louis Holmes. The Lincoln Colored band will give a concert October 6 at Walsh Hall. An Emancipation celebration was held Tuesday night of last week at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church. Young’s Pantorium, of which Mr. V. B. Young is proprietor, is doing a good business. Mrs. J. C. Cooley has returned from a two weeks’ tour in her car in Kan sas and Missouri. They visited Hia watha, St. Joseph, Kansas City, Law rence and Topeka. Mrs. M. Patterson and Mrs. S. Smith were Ak-Sar-Ben visitors in Omaha last week. Jno. Albert Williams leaves Tuesday for St. Louis, Mo., where he will be a visitor to the Gen eral Convention of the Episcopal church. On October 12 he is to be une of the appointed speakers at the Conference on Theological Education held in connection with the Conven tion on the topic, “The Present Neces sity for a Learned Ministry and a Place for a Less Learned Ministry in the Church.” The other speakers on this subject will be the Rt. Rev. W. T. Faber, D. I)., bishop of Montana; the Rev. G. G. Bartlett, D. D., dean of the Phila delphia Divinity School and the Rev. C. B. Wilmer, D. D., of Atlanta, Ga. The appointed speakers and writers it this conference, which will occupy Jiree days includes some of the ablest lien in the Episcopal church and it i therefore considered quite a dis inction and honor to have a place on he program. On October 18th Father Williams, Bishop Matthews and the Rev. Dr. Irving P. Johnson, bishop-coadjutor •lect of Colorado, who were all or dained together here in St. Matthias hureh, expect to celebrate the silver mniversary of their ordination to the priesthood as they will be all in St. Louis at that time.
