EST f ?4&L&r3&a2 miLWm w i-jZM: llfHlM Tho first largo reception of "93 was given Thursday evening by Mr. and Mrs. Oliver Rogers at their beautiful homo on K street. Tho guests com menced to arrive at about 8:30 p. m. and a continual stream of humanity passed in and out tho Rogers homo. The interior decorations for tho occasion were generously distrib uted throughout the house. Tho dining room, where delicate re freshment were served during tho evening, under tho direction of Mrs. Cail Fuuko and Mrs. Walter B. Hargreaves, was gorgeously decorated with lavender drapings, smilax and violets. About two hundred paid their compliments to tho host and hostess during the evening, and after the crowd had thinned out dancing was the order of the evening- Miss Eikenburg of Plattsmouth is in tho city visiting her cousin. Miss Olive Latta. Salt Lake has been crowded during tho past week with skaters who are taking advantage of the fine skating making hay while the sun shines, as it were. Mr. and Mrs. Rd33 L. Curtice returned from their wedding trip last Sunday. Mrs. George W. Avery is in the city, tho guest of Mr. 0. A. Howe. Mrs. E. E. Brown opened her elegant home last Monuay to tho member" and friends of the Woman club. This is, in fact, the first reception given to the club and has set an example for much futuro enjoyment and social prosperity in bringing together sympathizers of this club. Mn. Brown was assisted by Mrs. C. E. Yates. Mrs. Callahan, Mrs. Thompson, Mrs. Henry Oliver, Miss Agnes So well and Miss Stella Elliott. E. S. Dundy, Jr., of Omaha, was in the city Monday taking testi mony in federal court cases. The next Cotillon will be held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. Buckstaff, Wednesday, January :13rd. Miss Jeannette Wilson, Mrs. W. B. Hargreaves and Mrs. Chas. L. Burr will have charge of the favors. MB8 Mae Burr leaves for St. Joseph, Mo., Tuesday, where she will visit her friend, Miss Norman. Messrs. Mart Aitken. J. H. Harley, R. If. Townley and N. C. Ab bott are in Sioux City this week attending the whist tournament. Pryor Markell who is well and favorably known in this city was here Thursday. Miss Gertrude Harding Laws and Mr. William E. Hardy were married in the city of Enid, Onla., Wednesday, January 11, and have gone to New York on their wedding trip, Miss Laws and Mr. Hardy are well known here both in social and literary circles and while it is true that Miss Laws has been away from this city for a number of years, yet she is distinctively a Lincoln girl. Mr. Hardy is a man of sterling qualities and needs no introduction as ho has lived among the citizens of Lincoln nearly all his life and is one of the most respected young men not only in social and literary circles but in the business world as well. Mr. and Mrs. tlardy will be at home at 1825 M street after February 15. J. B. Ferguson has goDe to Chicago. S. G. King left yesterday for Champaign, 111. Ivol Cramer left for Loamington, 111 , yesterday. Mrs. L. L. Stewart left yesterday for San Diego, Cal. C. N. Levy, superintendent of the Iowa system of the Burlington, was in the city yesterday eastbound. Attorney-General Churchill is registered at the Windsor. Mr Churchill does not intend to remove his family here, for some time at least. Brad Slaughter, who has been appointed receiver of tho Lincoln Street Railway company, is at the Lincoln, where he will remain some time, at least until some radical change takes placo in tho affairs of the company. Mr. Chas. C. Upham returned last week from New York after an extended visit of nearly half a year. At the presentation of "A Jolly Good Fellow' by Mr. Charles Dickson, Mrs. S. C. Brock, Miss Rachel Brock and Mr. George Woods composed one of the box parties and Miss Mime Cirson, Miss Mae Burr, Mr. C. A. Hjwo and Mrs. George W. Avery, of Sioux City, composed the other. E. Rosewater spent four hours in this tainted atmosphere vester day and then rushed back to the headquarters of pure ozon and gall and other things on Farnam street. Chimpanzees corporation cormorants, legislative pick pockets and other animals of the fields which the editor imagines inhibit this real were not visible to the naked eye during the aforessid four hours.
