Miss Sadio Burnhaui celebrated her return from a mooted Ma
sachuesetts seminary by inviting Misses Renolds, Camp and Swell
to assist her in renewing old acquaintances of "9t. Mi6s Willough
by's music and delicate refreshments added to the charms of the
fair hostess, made the time alloted to each visitor all too Bhort.
Misses Heaton, Risser. Harley, Fawell, Shaw Williamson and Law,
members of the L'Amusement club received at Miss Heaton's, HOG
E street, in a most royal manner. Colored pages attended the wants
of the callers and never failed to remind each and all, that their
combined efforts could not keep the punch bowl empty.
The Burr mansion, 1503 II street was brilliantly lighted all ev -n
ing and callers came to visit, for formality was thrown aside and a
home-liko sociable timo enjoyed, Miss Mae Burr, with the help of
Misses Mills, of Ciuciunatti: Smith, of Omaha; Maude Burr, Carson,
Latta, Griffith, Moore, Hooper. Evans, Brock, Mrs. W. F. Kelloy,
and Mrs. Chas. L. Burr furnished the social features of the evening.
Miss Burr's singing put most of the company to a musical turn of
mind and the remainder of the evening was a Beries of musical
treats.

The wonderful Sandow and his company
of Trocaduro Vaudevilles drew two large
houses at the Lansing Theatre New Year's
day and evening. Sandow iH just as wonder
V'ftil as ho has been nainted. It would bcdillicult

development is in itself a distinct event.
The bi-annual appearance of the genial comedian, Sol Smith
Russel, in the old English classical comedy "The Heir nt-Luw" by
George Column, the younger, at the Lansing theatre Thursday even
ing was approvingly met by the largest limine of the season. The
play, although its first presentation in Lincoln, has been handed
down ami iutorpcrted by the representative conibdians for over one
hundred years. It gave splendid satisfaction, ho.vuver, probably
becauso It was presented by Sol Smith Russell.
The Hayden Art club inaugurated a novel New Years entertain
ment by combining sociahbility, art and music, hundreds of callers
accepted the hospitality of the members of the club. The musical
features of the evening were rendered by Mrs. Lippincott, Miss
Schotield, Mr. Hagenow and Professor Planquit, while delicacies
were served by Miss Harris, Mrs. Dr. Ward and Mrs. C. II. Gere.
Those present were Mrs. I. M. Raymond and daughter. Mrs Prof.
Bessey, Miss Marjon Chase, Mrs. H. rf. Wilson, Miss Kate Wilder,
Miss Anna Wildei Mrs. Prof. Hodgman, Mrs. Dr. Ward. Mrs. Prof.
Taylor, Mrs. Prof. Caldwell, Mrs. N. S. Harwood, Miss Sarah Harris,
Mrs. M. D. Welch, Mrs. Dr. Ladd, Miss Olive Latta, Mrs. John
Wright, Mrs. J. L. McConnell, Mrs. C. H. Gere and daughters, Mrs.
J. SDales, Mrs. W. E. Stewart, Mrs. M. II. Tilton. Mrs. L. C. Rich

All afternoon and evening the Commercial club was thrown open
to friends and members. The reception com nitteo composed of
Colonel rlirry Hitchki-y. R M. Joyw. W. E.Clarke, A. II Buck
staff, J. G. Sherman, Jr , F W. Brown, George J. Woods, II. R. Krug
and Matison Bildvvin took it upon themselves to see that no one
was neglected.
