Hour club gave its tirst reception and dance.

its first danco Tuesday night, followed
by a Patriarchs' dance Wednesday and

Monday evening the parlors of tho First Baptist church were
thronged with friends who had come to welcome tho new pastor. Dr.
O. H. Rowlands and wife. The parlors were beautifully decorated
with palms, ferns and chrysanthemums; piano lamps with pretty
colored Bhades stood in the alcoves, and rugs and divans were
scattered around, which gave the rooms a homelike air. Words of
welcome were spoken by Rev. W. P. Hellings, Dr. E. H. Curtis, Rev
W. L. Blanchard and Professor Wilson. Tho reception shows the
kindly feeling of the members of tho church and will no doubt go
far toward making Dr. and Mrs. Rowlands feel at homo in Lincoln.
A charity party under the management of Mesdames A. E. Ken
nard, W. A. Preston, W. J. Turner, A. G. Billmeyer, R. M. Turner,
O. M. Thompson and M. B. Patrick, was given Monday evening at
the Hotel Kimball. The ladies issued about two hundred invita
tions and with but few exceptions those who sent their regrets sent
the admission fee, so that the ladies havo a largo sum to devote to
the care of the destitute in the city. High five was chosen for the
evening's amusement aud whMi the hour for the final reckoning came
it was found that Mrs. Fiske had won the first prize for the. Jadies
and Miss Kirker second. Mr. C. C. White won first honors for the
gentleman and Mr. T. H. Benton second. Tho consolation prizes
were given Mrs. Morris and Mr. Painter.
Three-society weddings will occur during the month of December.
Miss Alice Chambers, ofJDroaha, is Miss Leila Shears' guest.
Mrs. W. H. McCreery was called to Kansas City Wednesday by
the illness of htr mother.
The Lincoln gun club held an all day shot at Lincoln park on
Thursday.
The senior class of the high school gave a very enjoyable banquet
and costume party at the school last evening. The members present
were: Misses Dora Wilson, Ethelyn Hooper, Flora Burns, Annette
Abbott, Anna Bethune, Estella King, Josie Hoyt, Clara Leese, Edna
Charles, Dena Smith, Rosa Kohn, Alice Whitmoro, Minnib Smith,
Ethel Lawton, Etta Oberhes, Mattie Goodell, Frankie Burleigh,
Maud tl awley, Emily Weeks, Edith Henry, Blanche Brown, Bessie
Lane, and Messrs. Prentiss Reader, Frank Tucker, Edson Henry,
Bert Watkins, Louis Ryan and Fred Cooke.
The Patriarchs dance on Wednesday evening was one of the pleas
ant events of' the week. The following members were present:
