Governor Thayer lett Wednesday evening for Willsonvilie to deliver an address at the harvest home festival of Furnas county Thursday afternoon. Rumor of a matrimonial character has attached itself to a junior partner of a large dry goods firm in this city and a charming Quincy belle. A number of ladies spent Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Robert J. Greene at her homo on south Thirteenth street The hospitality of the hostess is so well Known that it goes without saying that the afternoon was a most enjoyable one for those fortunate enough to be present. The members of the Au Fait club were royally entertained by Mr. and Mrs. B. R. Cowdry at their home on C street on Wednes day evening. Afternoon parties are quite the thing again. Miss Grace Oakley will leave next week for Texas where she will be the guest of Lieut and Mrs. T. W. Griffith. A coming event in which society will undoubtedly take much interest is the appearance of Pauline Hall at the Funke opera house November 6 in her new comedy opera "Dorcas," said to be a distinct hit The Round Table met Monday evening for the first time this season. The meeting was held at the residence of Mr. I. M. Ray mond and Mr. Henry E. Lewis led the discussion which was on the following subject: "Anarchists, Communists, Socialists." F. W. Collins returned this week from Kansas. There is talk of a new dancing club in this city, to be organized, possibly next week. Mrs. Will Leonard entertained a number of lady friends on Thurs day afternoon at the residence of Mrs. C. C. Burr. The large parlors were effectively adorned with palms, smilax and roses and a bunch of red and white carnations was placed on each table. Macayreal and wife, of Cambridge, Nebraska, are at tending the Endeavor convention, and are the guests of Mrs. W Q. Bell. Mrs. W. Q. Bell and her mother, of Monmouth, Ills., spent Wed nesday in Omaha. . .j" The members of the Kappa Kappa Gamma fraternity were enter tained on Saturday-afternoon by Miss Lottie Whedon at six o'clock the following young ladies sat down to a most tempting spread: Misses Elizabeth Seacrest, Florence Winger, Jessie Jury, Sallie Groh, Alice Maitland, Maud Shaw, Dora Harley, Mariel Gere, Roberts, Anna Broady, Maud Risser, Griggs, Burks, Mae Whitney Ena Ricketts and the new initiates, Stella Elliot, Grace Broady, Cora Cropsey, Gertrude Hanson, Ellen Gere, Frances Gere and Nellie Law. In the evening the following gentleman joined them and enjoyed tripping the light fantastic. Messrs Hebard, Frank, Duff, Saxon, Andrews. Packard, Young, Cury, DuBravo, Wheeler, Wing, Haggard, Corwin Haggard, Jones, McCreery. Elliot, Hay ward, Westerman, Beecher, McLucas, Ames, Copley, Adams, White, Pace, Martin, Brown, Marley, Barber, Manley, Merrill, Walsh, Shears, King, Clements, Spooner, Muhler, Raymond and Far wall. The Capital City gun club met Friday afternoon at Lincoln Park., Rev. C. M. Shepherd has been appointed a delegate to the city evangelization conference club which convenes in St. Louis, October 15 and 17. The Rivola dancing club has reorganized with sixteen of itB last year's menbers. The club will give several parties this winter at the Lindell hotel. Judge Holcomb was at the Lindell, Thursday. Dr. Rogers of La Porte, Ind., is the guest of William H. Clark. Mrs. Jay Cox is Mrs. BuckBtafTs guest. Mrs. J. W. Moorehouse, of Omana, is visiting Mrs. A. L. Bixby. Miss Chambers of Columbus, Neb., who has been spending a few days with the Misses Cowdery, left for her home Thursday. L. C. Fowler, editor of the Steele City Standard, was in the city Thursday. Mrs. Sara A. Wilson left Thursday for Concordia, Kas to attend the annual meeting of the Topeka branch of the woman's foreign missionary society. The students of the Westeyan university were tendered a mast enjoyable reception on Thursday evening by the Chancellor and his wife at their pleasant home. Among the amusements of the evening was that laughable game "threading the needle," the first prize was a sewing box, the booby prize a huge darning ueedle. At II o'clock the dining room door was opened disclosing a prettily docorated table, from which the guests were served with ice cream, cake and chocolate. Dr. C. C.
