Going to Crete has furnished about
the only diversion for society people
this week. A great many peo
ple went down to spend Sunday and the
evening trains during the week have
carried goodly numbers of people
- w S veral families occupied cottages or
tents during the entire season. It is expected that the Chautauqua
assembly grounds will be pre-empted by camping parties'from this
city for the next thirty days, many of the cottages having already
been secured.
Miss Katherine Kleutsch has returned from Omaha after a pleas
ant visit with Miss Baughman.
Mrs. John I. Underwood and Miss Cora Hardy returned from
Crete Tuesday.
Outside of a few picnics, society can with entire proprietory be
said to have been in a non-existent state during the past week.
Rev. C. C. Lasby, who is absent lecturing at the Black Hills Chau
tauqua, is expected home the latter part of the week.
Mrs. Katharine Fisk of Chicago took part in the concert at Crete
Thursday evening.
Mi,"3 Flora B. Hartley read a very interesting paper on criminologly
before the prison reform association on Wednesday evening at the
Y. MICA. hall.
Joseph T. Duryea of Omaha spent Sunday in the city.
Miss Henrietta Hawley spent Monday at Crete.
Mrs. John Parker has returned to her home in Fairbury, Neb.
Messrs. Harry Harley, Park Garoutte, Wilson Winger, C. Y.Smith
and Misses Josephine Winger, Florence Winger and Ora Imhoff
spent Sunday at Crete.
Mesdames R. A. Perry and J. H. Harley went to Crete on Thursday.
Messrs. Ross Curtis, Frank Burr, Will 0Shea, Forrie Moore,
Hollowbush and Wertz Bros, have organized a specialty company
and will make a tour of the west; if things go their way they will
probably go as far as the coast. I'hey will start about July 26.
Lieut. Governor T. J. Majors spent Tuesday in Lincoln. He was
registered at the Windsor.
Misses Bain and Edwards champeron'ed a jolly part' of little girls
on Wednesday. At one o'clock they took the car which carried
them to Lincoln park. The afternoon was spent with boating, swim
ming and all that sort of thing. It was a pretty sight to see the
children all sitting around a large ''able enjoying a lunch which the
good mamma's had prepared. Among those present were Octavia
Kleutsch, Bessie Howard, Clara Howard, Edith Bain, Mabelle Ben
nett. Mabel Cox and Louise McWhinnie.
Maebrs and Mesdames W. R. Dawes, E. Elliott, E. H. Rogers, Miss
es Ross, Pound, Henry and Beickenderfer left Tuesday to attend the
Christian Endeavor convention at Cleveland.
Miss Marie Jones entertained a few friends in'orm illy on Monday
evening. At 11 o'clock the guests were invited to the dining room
where a delicious repast was served. Miss Jones" guests were Mes
dames Sutton, Cameron. Carey, Stiles, Misses Henrietta HollowbuBh,
Emerald Jones, Messrs Frank Zehrung, Frank Askins, Lyman B.
Cornell, Sutton and Hollowbush.
'Several Lincoln people attended the grand concert at Crete on
Thursday evening. ,
J. H. Harley and H. D. Hathaway expect to leave for the Big Horn
mountains soon, intending to spend a couple of months doing the
country.
Frank M. Cook, of this city, D. W. Cook, of Beatrice, and Ave or
six other gentlemen will leave for Wyoming the latter part of next
week. Thed will go into camp in the vicinity of Sheridan.
Mr. and Mrs. Charles Lionel Burr left Thursday for Spirit Lake,
Iowa, to be gone until after the first of August.
Miss Sarah Harris and Miss Bertie Clark returned Thursday from
Crete where they spent the Chautauqua season.

Miss Lela Thomas returned from a visit to Belleville. Kansas, Thurs
day evening.
Miss Dora Grubb returned! from Crete Thursday evening.
Miss Capitola Maine leaves today for a week's visit at Own
wood, Neb.
Messrs. Walter Hargraves, J. A. Bucksteff, Coinstock, Hollowbush,
L. B.Cornell, C. R. Lee, Frank Zehrung, Weedames Hargraves
Buckstaff, Cameron, Misses Hollowbush, EmerJd Jones and Marie,
Jones were delightfully entertained by Mr. and Mrs. Sutton on
Wednesday. The evening was Bpont with card?, charades and music.

Dr. W. C. Davis has returned from a fishing expedition on the
Platte.
Mr. Clough is in Topeka.
Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Wright will leave Monday for Ocean Grove, Nl
J., where they will spend several weeks.
