Carpentier Gives f Toast to Lewis Declares English Champ Is a "Good Sportsman'' at , ' Dempsey's Banquet. ' ' London, May 12. In a room which serves as' the monthly meet ing place for the modern perpetrators of the Knights of King Arthur's round table, three of the most dis cussed knights of the roped arena, Jack Dempsey, Georges Carpentier and Ted (Kid) Lewis, and their managers and trainers, and 30 British and American newspaper men. had luncheon today as the guests of Dempsey and Jack Kearns, who are sailing tomorrow for New York. ' At the luncheon Kearns forecast a return- fight between Dempsey and Carpentier in Europe within a year. He said that an agreement for a meeting between the two heavy weights hi London or Paris before next May had been reached between himself and Francois Descamp. According to Kearns, he and Des camps decided to leave the promo tion of the bout to the person offer ing the best terms for it. Neither Carpentier nor Dempsey is prohib ited from engaging in 1 encounters with other men prior to the battle in Europe, but a defeat for either of the heavyweights would result in the agreement being automatically can celed. During the luncheon Carpentier toasted Lewis, who was defeated by the Frenchman Thursday evening. He called ewis "a good sports man." ' .. ' ' .
