Trading In cotton seed oil futures may. be started at any time now, and It Is understood some of the larger packers are aniious for the business to get under way. The trade will probably be carried on In the provisions pit at present, at least, or until the trade broadena to a great extent. The commission charge tor the purchase and sale ahall be 120 for each 160 barrels. For soms time It has been difficult to sell September corn In any volume, but today there was a reversal of conditions. and a -sudden demand appeared for the aeptemoer ana tnere was a large quantity bought quietly around the pit. A New York export house wired: "There Is some export business every day. but mostly In Manitobas, which are about the same price as our wheat and worth about 6 cents a bushel more. For de ferred positions, Manitobas ara a little cheaper.?' . Minneapolis cash wheat started strong and higher premiums were indicated. Both at the New York reserve btnk and in the reserve system as a whole this reduction in the ratio was occasioned by increased rediscounts, increased reserve account of member banks and increased note circulation, each a natural indication of 'he coming expansion of an autumn trade. Reaction of prices on :he stock exchange, for the most part frac tional, was the market's only re sponse to the day's occurrences. A small business was done on this de cline, which seemed to Je the result of moderate profit-taking sales by re cent speculative buyers for the rise. Mark Hit Bottom. Today's fall In the German mark from 1.0714c to 1.75c fixed th lowest price on record. In January of last year, wnen most of the European currency, reflecting the suddei withdrawal of An f.-iun bank credits, went to their lowest talues, there were reports that the mark had sold lielo-v 1 cen'.r but 1.01c was the lowest quotation verified. On lta face, a decline of seven on hun drmltns of a cent does not seem im pressive. It Is percentage decllnea which count In VnliMiir a currency, however, an I when the mark was quoted n week sgo at 1.17440 today's price represented a fall of 15 per cent within tiai in-t-vnl in tfco German paper currency's foreiisi v.t'i rtioii. The extremely violent reaction in the cotton market, which! at one time in the day brought the price for next month delivery down to laat week's closing level, began In Liverpool. That market started the week's wild speculation while New York and New Orleans were closed on Saturday and Monday. Today the Eng lish speculator appeared to be taking quick profits. The New York market followed suit, leaving It a matter of some what Interesting conjecture to wtat ex tent tne aoutn has sold its accumulated cotton on the rapid advance. It will probably be agreed that today's decline did not fix the actual value of cotton, any more than did Tuesday's rise. The extent to which the facts set forth In the government's September crop report should normally change the level of cot ton prices will mean a puzzling prob lem. Thus far, the market's action I Illus trative chiefly of the world's disposition to speculate In values. 174 8,498 22..
