Uncle Sam Makes Appeal For Hogs of Handyweight Nebraska hog raisers are asked by the federal food administration through Z, T. Leftwich, president of the Nebraska Live Stock Feeders' as sociation, St. Paul, Neb., to furnish light handy-weight hogs to the mar ket. What the government wanti, in or der to furnish the demands of the al lied governments for army use, is a clans of hogs that will run from 200 to 250 pounds weight, and that can be matured in from nine to eleven months without feeding of expensive corn rations. This class of hogs produce bacon, hams, shoulders and the best quality of mess pork, adaptable to the com missary uses of the various armiei in the field. 'NOVELIST' AND ' WIFE ALLEGED ' TO BE FORGERS Many Spurious Checks Said to Be Passed by Omaha News paper Man Posing as War Correspondent. With a string of bad checks be?, hind him extending from Washing ton to Chicago to Omaha and to Lin coln, George H. Bennett is wanted for forgery by the Omaha police, A, complaint was made out against him by County Attorney Magney Mon day morning on the charge of forg ing a check for $85 on the Corn Ex change National bank of Chicago. The check was typewritten and made out to George H. Bennett The. name "Street Publishing company,", was typewritten at the foot of the' check and the name of Lee Foster signed in script. . Payment of the check has been refused by the Chi cago bank. : liennett arrived in Omaha several weeks ago and posed as a correspond-! ent of the Central News agency of London who had been gassed on the western front He secured employ ment on an Omaha newspaper and told wondroua tales of his nwspaper ex-; periences from the Alantic . to the Pacific. He told some people that he. wrote novels under the pseudonym of Talbot Mundy. He told others that his wife was really Corra .Harris.' novelist and magazine writer. ' and that she was a cousin of George. Creel chairman of the committee on public information. Bennett and his wife lived at the Morris apartments in Omaha. " He said that he was a Mohammedan by. faith and that he was born in Ar kansas of Arab parents. ' Cashes Checks. A week ago, on the plea tljat he had been assigned by the Saturday. Evening Post to cover I. W. W. ac tivities at Des Moines, Bennett suc ceeded in cashing several checks for small amounts on the Sate bank of Omaha. The bank reported in one in-, stance that his credit with the bank was good, but later it was discovered that this credit rested on a check for. $87 on the American bank of Wash ington which later protested the check. But by that time Bennett had left Omaha. . He was next heard of in Lincoln, where he succeeded in duping mem bers of the State Council of Defense, j one of whom acted as his host at . luncheon and even arranged to have the Bennetts, who were posing as special writers for the Saturday Eve ning Post, to address a patriotic , meeting at a Lincoln theater. But . before the address was given Ben nett smelled a rat and left town, just before a police officef appeared on, his trail. He is said to have escaped , with a pack of the Council of De-' fense's stationery. ,. .
