CHICAGO GRAIN AND rKOYISIOHeV
Oats Takes Leadership a t Volams of
Trade and I pturn of Yaltn.
Chicago. June II. Hot weather and
drougth, Impairing the promts of a record
breaking crop 0 oats, had a oonspicuous
part today In forcing sharply higher prloes
on grain. Th close was strong with corn
up 14 to 2 '4c net st $1,454 to 11.41, July
snd (1.4701 48, August. Oats gained 4 to
8c, and provisions 10 to 65 cent.
Oats took the leadership away from .eora
both as to rolums ot business and upturn
of value. Principal bullish factor waa th
government weekly report which showed
that actual damage had been don ia Kan-
sas, Missouri and Montana and that rain
was needed In soms of tha csntrsl states.
Inasmuch as heretofore prices hsd been vir
tually based on a perfect rop outlook, buy
ing on a big acale and the advance received
additional lmpetu from export purchas
ing. Besides, arrivals were scanty and con
signment notices Indicated, but little likeli
hood of any Immediate Increase. Under euch
circumstance, reactions proved unimportant
and tha -market closed at the topmost Isrel
ot the day.
Corn sympathised with the advance In
oats, although no Injury to corn was men
tinned In the government advices. On ths
other hand, however, expectation wer for
decrease, receipts ot corn.
Provisions rose with grain despite weak
ness of hogs.
