So successlut has twilight base ball
been in Omha and other cities of the
Western league thatiW. A. Rourke,
president of the Omaha club, has de
termined to start games 'at 6:45 in
stead of 6:30 when the base ball team
returns from its present road trip,
Attendance at twilight games in
Omaha has not been of the record
breaking variety, but it has been vast
ly superior to the daylight attendance.
For this reason Rourke is convinced
it is the only plan in war times and
to make the games still more easy to
attend he has decided to set back the
hour another 15 minutes. By starting
at 6:45 it is believed it wilt give more
time for the fans to get their dinner!
and-then go to the game. ,
Sale of Tickets.
Sale of coupon books to the local
games is continuing. The Chamber
of Commerce has undertaken to sen
1,000 books, each book containing 20
tickets. This represents total of
$10,000.
This $10,000 will assure Omaha o
brse ball this year. It is less than
cne-third of what the year's expenses
will be, but Pa Rourke believes reg
ular attendance will make up the other
$20,000 and perhaps net little profit
' The Western league's only aim this
year is to finish the year without lots,
ft has no hope of making money.. The
magnates are continuing to keep
their parks open only for the purpose
of provinsr that the Western league is
one of the real staunch leagues of;ihean,2b
organized ball. i itrunk.ct
Des Moinet Makes Mark. K
v Tim Moines, alrearlv has. finished Its I f'TmMb
ticket sale. Des Moines started just "w'e
a day or two ahead of Omaha, but has I iohang.o
come under the wire with flvino- e nl. I 'n.P
ors away ahead of the Gate city. The
Des Moines , Chamber of Commerce
already has turned its, $10,000 over
to the Des Moines club,
- It is said Des Moines has an eye on
the American association. There are
reports that a vacancy is to occur in
the Class AA league next 'year,1 per
haps this year. Des, Moines wants
that franchise and- hopes by showing
what it can do in the way of pat
ronage to a Western league club,
gain that franchise,
. Omaha also has looked with longing
eyes at the American association, but
it the vacancy should occur now, Des
Moines has the inside track on it be
cause of better attendance.

FAST PRELIM FOR
MATCH BETWEEN'
ZIBANDSTECIIER
Carl Marfisi Arranges Bout
to Test Merits of Swindell
and Petti john Before .
Big Go. v
A match between two of the fastest
featherweight wrestlers in the country
has been arranged by Carl Marfisi as
one of the preliminary attractions at
the Joe Stecher-Wladek Zbyszko
westling match at the Omaha Audi
torium next Wednesday night. The
match will be between Claude Swin
dell of Lincoln and Rube Pettijohn of
Oxford, Neb.
Swindell has $250 posted with a
Lincoln sport writer with a standing
offer to meet any 126-pound wrestler
in the country. The $250 goes as a
forfeit the minute his offer is accepted
and then applies as a side bet when
the match is on.
Swindell is said to be as fast as
lightning and one of the cleverest
little fellows in the business. If a ,
championship were determined in the
126-pound class, his Lincoln admirers
say he would win it hands down.
Pettijohn of Oxford is a bitter rival
to Swindell's. He also is a feather-.
weight of no mean ability and he be- -lieves
he has an edge on Swindell. .
Another preliminary match will be
between Tom Ray of Omaha and
Fred Moormier of Courtland. Neb.
Reports have it that these two 165
pound bonecrushers have a grudge to
settle and that it will be decided at
the Omaha meeting.
The Teddy brothers will open the
show, Marfisi announces.
hi an added attraction, Marfisi
says he has made a deal for the iaz
ziest jazz band in the country. The
band will play before the match and '
between falls. Marfisi says he will
have the band on hand early to en
tertain the fans who arrive at an
early hour in order to escape the
crowds at the later hours.
