New Tork, April 5 The stock market Was
at virtually a standstill during the greater
part of today's session, exceeding all
previous days of an abnormally dull week
In Ita nnparalled apathy. Total sales
amounted to 146.000 shares, the low record
since August 1914. Resumption of the
German drive In France accounted for the
further cessation of operations, even th
trading element taking no Interest In tho
courses of prices.
Decline of a point among Investments
shares and as much as two points In a few
specialties resulted from sheer indifference ,
or Inertia. The market seemed so thoro- '
ughly liquidated that no pretext for pres
sure existed.
The decision of the Intestate commerce
commission tn inquire Into petroleum freight
rates and scarcely a ripple among the
shares of the properties most concerned,
sueh action having evidently been dis
counted. Other domestic; developments were along
more constructive tines, general trade
advices offering further encouragement and
bank stearlngs holding well up to recent
high levels.
