X J (THIS OMAHA SUNDAY SEE: . MARCH SI, 1918. EASTER SUl'DA Y SERVICES IN THE OMAHA CHURCHES. - if 'I I - 4 ! I v PATRIOTIC LILT TO MARK EASTER CHURCH MUSIC Choirmasters Catch Inspira tion of "War and Remember Boys Who Are Fighting "Over There' r The Easier musical programs this V vear are a little more elaborate than usual. ,T(iere are the usual cantatas ; and the sacred hymns, but in many of thq, churches the chiormasters have worked patriotic music into their programs, probably catching some thing of the inspiration of war and at the same time thinking of the boys who have been called to the front. In' most of the churches the Easter programs are to be given in accord ance with the new time schedule ef fective Sunday morning. In the pro grams, as handed in to The Bee for publication in this column, it is taken for granted that where the hour of the service is named the new time is understood. First Methodist. In the Omaha churches Sunday morning and night, music is to have the right-of-way. It is Easter and' according to the usual custom, in most of the churches of all denomi nations elaborate musicaP programs have been prepared, to take the place of either the morning or evening services. There is a feeling that the changing of time,or rather the pushing of time ahead one hour in order to get more daylight, is going to be somewhat confusing to church goers. In the notices handed in by the pastors, in a number of them it is stated in some of them the time that is to be followed. In others ,there is no ref erence to these, persons desiring to attend services at these particular churches, to be on the safe side, should be present an hour earlier than usual. If they do this, they are sure to be on time. - At the Castellar Presbyterian church, Rev. Walter N. Halsey, pas tor, says the change in time due to changes in clocks will not be made until the Sunday after Easter. The Easter exercises will be held at 9:45, 11 and 7:30, old time. Sunrise prayer meeting at 7, will be held. Easterxservices under the auspices of the Metaphysical Library- club will be held Sunday at 11 in the rooms, 1604 City National bank building.H Mrs. D. O. Craighead will lecture on "The Risen Christ." Miss Julie Cook, the society's lecturer, has returned to New York. The Omaha Woman's Christian Temperance union will have charge of the Easter services at the Old People's Home on Fontenelle boule vard, Sunday at 3:30. Rev. Fred J. Clark of the First Congregational church will give the sermon and Mrs. Clark will sing. .-At "11 o'clock Easter morning at St. Cecelia cathedral there will be pontifical mass celebrated by Arch bishop Harty, with assistant priest, Father Harrington; deacon, Rev. John Vogel, and sub-deaion, Rev. Michael Quinn. Deacons at the throne, Revs. J. C. Collins and T. O'Sullivan; master of ceremonies. Rev. E. J. Flanagan. Sermon by Fathef Isador. The following liturgical' mnsic will be rendered at St. Cecilia's by St. Ce cilia's mixed choir under direction of Miss v Winifred Traynor, and St. Ce cilia's boys' surpliced choir, directed by Very Rev. Julius Hettwer of the Bishop O'Connor hall, organ by Miss Winired Traynor. Mount Calvary commandary will hold its Easter service in the Hans com Park Methodist church, Wool worth and Twenty-ninth, on Sunday evening at 7:45. The Easter sermon will be by the pastor. Rev. W. H. Spence. The music will be under the direction of Walter B. Graham and Miss Corneile Cornish. Two hundred members of the commandary expect to be in attendance. The First Baptist church announces special services all day tomorrow with Easter baptisms and brief messages by the pastor, A. A. DeLarme on "The Power of the Resurrection" and "Recent Easter Triumphs." An aug mented chorus choir of 30 voices assit ed by soldier boys, home from the camps will sing "The Crowned King" in the morning and "t he Star of the Crucifixion" and the "Resurrection" at night.
