Forward Passing Party For Illinois and Purdue Champaign. III., Oct. 28. In a game which started as a punting duel and ended in a forward-passing party, with the I'niversity of Illinois eleven as the chief actor, Purdue was defeated by Illinois here yesterday, 27 to 0. "Chic" llarley, all-Amcrican right halfback, viewed the game in civilian clothes after the first quarter. Tufts Proves Easy for Syracuse Grid Warriors Syracuse, N. Y Oct. 28,-The Syra cuse fool ball team found little opposi tion in the Tufts eleven here today and overwhelmed them by a score of 58 to 0. After securing a big lead in the early part of the game Syracuse put in second and third string men in the second half. State Red Cross Director Denies Workers Are Paid Through certain sections of Ne braska reports have been circulated that salaries arc being paid to of ficials of the state and local Ked Cross association. Relative to this, Frank V. Judson, state director, has the fol lowing to say. "Head officials of the American Red Cross at Washington, those at the head of this work in the central divi sion, and those at the head of the state work in Nebraska, namely: F. W. Judsoii, state director; Mrs. Z. T. Lindsey, director of woman's service; Miss Nellie Calvin, superintendent of surgical dressings, do not receive one cent of compensation for their serv ices, although they arc giving practi cally all of thcii time to this work. Furthermore, all incidental expenses in connection with their work have been paid by themselves. We wish also to state that no one connected with the Omaha chapter, with the ex ception of the stenographer, receives pay for their services." Explicit in structions lor sending Christmas packages to the American troops in France were issued today by the I'ostoftice department. 1'ostofTices will accept parcels weigh ing not more than seven pounds after they have been inspected by the post master and certified to contain no dangerous or other prohibited articles. Such mail should be addressed witl the name of the soldier, his regiment and company, or other unit, and "Am erican Expeditionary Forces." These articles are to be conspicuously marked "Christmas parcel," and will be delivered through the postal ser vice direct to the mail orderlies witii the troops in France. In addition to the mail service, the War department will transport boxes weighing up to 20 pounds if packed in strong wooden boxfs, not to exceed two cubic feet in volume, well strap ped and with a hinge or screw top, to permit examination by the military authorities. These packages must not contain inflammable, explosive, or other pro hibited matter. They will be delivered through military conveyances. The War department announces that such parcels delivered through it must reach Pier I, Hoboken, N. J., not later than December S. Whether sent through the postal service direct, or through the War de partment from Hdboken, the rate is 12 cents a pound from any point in the United States. English Commons to Vote Additional War Credits London, , Oct. 28. The supplemen tary estimate for a vote of credit for 400,(XX),(XK), which is to be moved in the House of Commons Tuesday by Andrew Bonar Law, chancellor of the exchequer, was issued today.
