Cattle There was another heavy run of
cattle today, about 16,000 head, making
40.000 for the two days, or fully 11,000 more
than a week ago. Heavy receipts and the
bearish reports from outside points hsd a
very depressing influence on the market
and packers started out bidding anywher
from lOo to 3 So lower than yesterday for
both beef steers and cow stuff. Prices were
naturally very Irregular, the more desirable
grades suffering least and the medium
and common kinds that did not appear to
please psckers or feeder buyers being the
greatest sufferers. In general killing stock
shows a decline of 1060o for the two days,
and tons to the market la decidedly weak.
There was no Improvement In the feeder
situation. Country demand wa of fairly
liberal proportions, but not sufficiently so to
clean up the liberal offerings even at prices
ranging from 35a to 50o lower than last
week. Right choice feeders were In good
demand, but ordinary light and Inedlum
stuff was a drug on th market and right
around 60c lower than It waa a week ago.

CHICAGO GRAIN PROVISIONS.
Uncertainty Existing. Maximum Value, of
Corn Cause Weakness and Strength,...,
Chicago, Sept 16. Uncertainty over pos
slbl change In the existing maximum, val
ues ot corn led today to alternate weakness
and strength In th corn market. Th close
was unsettled to 1U net higher at $1.11
to 11.11 01.11 December and $1.19 to
$1.19 U May. Oals finished off to I1KO
1 up and provisions varying from 1 de
cline to 67o advance
Belief prevailed during th first half ot
th session that the government food ad
ministration preferred to hav th already
established maxlumum pries on corn let
alone. Much selling prrssur resulted, with
absence of any Indications of frost danger
tending also to handicap th bulls. In th
last half of the day. however, a snarp up
turn ensued. Th view that no change
would be mad In niaxlmum prices itemed
to hav largely lost Its grip on the trade
and there wss uneasiness, too. over pros
pecta of undesirable shower and cooler
weather.
Month-end adjustment of dealing In th
September opinion of oats caused that month
to loss soma- or It premium, utner de
liveries, though, maintained firmness, as
country offerings wer light
Provisions reached new high price level.
Scarcity of hog gave a lift to th market,
and so likewise did bullish statements re
garding the world supply of meat and live
stock.
