"They told rue my car was stolen betore i Knew it. Two Big Passenger Ships Are Sunk Off Plymouth New York, May 14. The British passenger steamship Medina, a 12,-350-ton vessel, owned by the Penin sular & Oriental Steam Navigation company, was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine April 28 off the coast of Plymouth, according to American passengers arriving here to day from England. On the same day in almost the same locality the Omrah, a vessel of 8,130 tons, owned by the Orient Steam Navigation company was also torpedoed and sunk, the passengers said. No lives were lost on either ship, but valuable cargoes went down. On the Medina were more than 300 per sons, passengers and crew. SPRING WHEAT IS TO YIELD STRONG Burlington Road's Crop Report Shows that Majority of Plowing for Corn Has Been Finished. The Burlington'!) crop report for the week ending last Saturday night and having to do with conditions in Nebraska indicates that while wheat was badly damaged by the cold of last winter there will be nothing like a total failure. On the McCook division, covering the southwestern portion of the state, the condition of winter wheat at this time is estimated at 50 to 75 per cent of the normal for this season of the year. On the Lincoln division, around Grand Island. Seward, Hastings, York, Columbus, Sutton, Crete and Aurora, winter wheat is a total loss. On other portions of the division the condition is reported at 40 to 90 per cent of the normal. On the Wymore division, around Strang and Superior, the crop is a total loss, with a 5 to 40 per cent prospect elsewhere. Spring wheat is in good condition and making rapid growth. The same is true with reference to oats, the cold and wet weather having been favorable to tile growth. It is estimated that three-fourths of the plowing for corn has been finished. Planting is going on rap idly and will be about finished by the end of this week. Everywhere in the state alfalfa and red clover was badly winter killed.
