THE OMAHA SUNDAY BEE: DECEMBER 10. 1916. 3 B Council Bluffs Social Notes Monday afternoon the Federated Mothers' club held the December meeting at the library. Routine business occupied the afternoon, Mrs. .1. II. Cole, the president, presiding. On account of thc absence of the chairman from the city, the report of the domestic science course was car ried over to the next meeting. The V. C A. held its December meeting at the home of Mrs. J. P. I less. Monday afternoon. Various matters of routine business were transacted and a social hour was en joyed. Refreshments were served by the committee. Monday evening Mr. Joseph V. Dickerson and Miss Adeline Wadum . were united in marriage at the home of the bride, 1319 Avenue B, by Rev. Henry" De Long. Mrs. Arthur Hoffraayer entertained lift' South First Street Chapter of St. Paul's Guild Monday afternoon. A business session occupied the earlier part of the afternoon, after which a social hour was enjoyed. Refresh ments were served by the hostess. A delightful children's party was given by Mrs. J. G. W'adswprth on Monday in honor of the sixth birth day of her daughter, Dorothy. Kin dergarten games and other' appropri ate amusements furnished the after noon's entertainment, which was di rected by Miss Davenport, assisted by Mary Wallace, Georgene Ferguson and Catherine Beardsley. The chil dren were seated at one large table and five smaller ones, which were dec orated with Richmond, roses. The boys' places were marked with bon bonieres in the shape of red sleds, while the girls had little flower pots with a sprig of holly. The favors were miniature candelabra and chaf ing dishes of pewter for the girls and mail boxes and singing tops for the boys. As the children left for home each was presented with a Christmas stocking, filled with little toys. Tuesday afternoon the Ideal club met at the Jjome of Mrs. B. S. Terwil liger. The program opened with a discussion of current events, led by vMrsA. C. Brown. The remainder of the afternoon was devoted to the study of Bulgaria. The government, its handicrafts and the rapid growth of its commerce was ably discussed by Mrs. Jj M. Oursler. Mrs. Millard F. Rohrer told of the national orthodox church. A very interesting article, "Bulgaria, the Peasant State," from the National Geographic Magazine, was read by Mrs. Fred Johnson. Next Tuesday afternoon the club will take up the study of Siberia. The H. C. L. club was entertained Tuesday by Mrs? R. H. Huntington of Oakland avenue. 'At "500" Mrs. A. J. Gregg won the prize for high score, and Mrs. I. W. Pence the "cut for all." The members have decided to hold no more meetings until January 2, when Sirs. R. Jones will be hostess. s Tuesday evening the study depart ment of f e Catholic Woman's league met at the public library. The topic, "Church History," which was taken up at the last meeting, was continued by Miss Mary O'NeiL in an exceed ingly interesting ana comprehensive paper on the subject. All took part in the general discussion which followed. "Current Events" was the topic of a very interesting paper by Miss Mar garet Keeline. The next meeting will be held at the library January 2, the members considering it inadvisable to hold meetings during the holiday sea' son.. Mrs. J. J. Lcuth, who has been a guest of the J. K. club on several occasions, gave the members a com plimentary party Wednesday after noon. She had as her guests in ad dition io the club members, Mrs. Ernest Nichols, Mrs. Harry Berthols and Mrs. E. J. Stevens. The after noon was spent in playing "500," Mrs. William Seymour winning the prize for high score. The consolation prize was won by Mrs. I. -G. Williams and the "cut-for-all" by Mrs. Ross Trot ter. The hostess, assisted by Mrs. Stevens and Mrs. Berthols, served a tvo-course luncheon. Mrs. J. W. Schill r will entertain the club De cember 20. Wednesday evening Mr. and Mrs. Elery Coburn had as guests at an oyster supper Mr. and Mrs. James Clark, Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Sawyer and family, Mr. W. O. Coburn and Mr. J. S. Coburn, all of Silver City. Tuesday evening Miss Cora Gretzer entertained the teachers of the Harri son street school at dinner. The evening was spent with games and music. Mrs. I. N. Flickinger was hostess to the Book Lovers Wednesday after noon. The study of Victor Hugo's "Lcs Miserables" was begun,, Mrs. D. W. Otis telling of the bishop of D. and his charities, his influence upon Jean Valjcan of Jean Valjean as man ufacturer and mayor and of the be friending of Fantine. Mrs. F. T. True gave they selected topic for the day, a practical and instructive talk along the line of municipal government. Next Wednesday afternoon the club will meet again with Mrs. Flickinger. The Flower mission is offering twelve dolls for sale at the Everett building as a means of raising money for the annual Christmas tree given for the poor children of the city. Cakes and pies are also on sale. Mrs. Wood Allen entertained the Atlas club Tuesday afternoon. Mrs. C. D. Parmelee led the discussion of -current events. The history of the city of Jerusalem, with all its associ ations, and a vivid description of the city itself was given by Mrs. J. T. Hamilton. A social session is sched uled for January 5 and no further meeting will be held until that time. , The members of the L. T. club were entertained at a 1:30 o'clock luncheon Wednesday by Mrs. J. C. Barhyte. Club guests werfr Mrs. John Culton, Miss Aumann and Mrs. M. Wcatherbee. Mrs. Sparc will be the hostess at the next meeting, Decem ber 27, when a Christmas grab bag with gifts for all will be a feature. Thursday evening at 8 o'clock Mr. Arthur Bartel and Miss Clare Chris topher were quietly married by Rev. George A. Ray at the manse of the Second Presbyterian church. The young couple was accompanied by Mr. Bartel's parents, Mr. and Mrs. M. Bartel and Mr. and Mrs. D. J. itirtz and daughter, Dorothy. Mr. and Mrs. Bartel left immediately after the ceremony for a short wedding trip and upon their returfi will make their home for the present with Mr. and Mrs. M. Bartel on Benton Street. The Elite Card club was entertained Thursday afternoon by Mrs. H. C. Jenkins. Harvey, and plans to make her home in Omaha. Mrs. Foote gave a bright little suffrage talk at the meeting Monday of the social science department, Omaha Woman's club. Mrs. Foote belongs to the Chicago Woman's club, the Woodlawn club, P. E. O. sisterhood, Kings' Daughters, and Children's Welfare association, and is on the board of directors for the Jackson Park sanitarium. prize for high score at "500" and also the "cut-for-all." A three-course luncheon followed the game. Decem ber 21 the club will be entertained at the home of Mrs. E. R. Long, 1100 Firth avenue. The Cosma club was entertained Thursday afternoon by Mrs. D. A. Moore. "Five Hundred" occupied the afternoon, Mrs. Moore winning the prize for high score, Mrs. Ira Hayes, the second prize, and Mrs. Waugh, the third. After the game luncheon was served. Mrs Hayes will be the hostess December 21, when a Christ mas box will be a feature. Mrs. J. G. N. MacAlister enter tained the Book and Thimble club Thurday afternoon." The study of domestic science was continued, trfe topic being, "Home Care for the' Sick." A very interesting paper was given on the subject by Mrs. Hollis Paulson. This was followed by a general discussion. Mrs. Robert Mc Pherson will entertain the club De cember 21, when a Christmas party will take the place of the usual pro gram. G. Jf. Rose has returned from a ' week's stay in Herman, Neb. Mrs. H. V. Jcffry is soendine a week with relatives in Lincoln. Mr. and Mrs. R. Burford have re turned home from a visit in St. Louis, Mo. Mrs. Claud Glandt entertained for her brother, Mr. George Hall of Co lumbus, Neb., during the last week. Mrs. G. J3oyce entertained the Philathea class at her home Tuesday evening. Refreshments were served after games. . - Mrs. P. Dolcjs and daughter have gone for a three months' stay with relatives in California. " Mrs. K. Liljcntolpe entertained on Tuesday afternoon at a luncheon. Mrs. Joe Burger of Omaha rendered a number of musical selections. Mrs. K. M. Sawtelle entertained the Guild at her' home last Monday evening. -, The Royal Neighbors hold their annual election of officers at their next meeting Thursday evening. Mrs. George Iradale will be Jiostess for the Presbyterian Ladies' Aid so ciety next Wednesday., The High School Musical club will give a program next Friday evening in the school auditorium under the direction of Miss Mable Shiphard. The Boosters' club closed its fair at the city hall Saturday night with a ball. The proceeds of the fair goes toward fitting the city gymnasium. Mr. and Mrs. George Brooks of Kearney-Mo., spent the last few days visiting at the Ben Morton home. Mr. and Mrs. James Nickolsen and daughter, formerly of this place, spent last Sunday visiting friends here. jMrs. D. Pence entertained at din ner last Tuesday in honor of Mrs. Ella Brooks of Missouri. The' women of the Methodist church held their annual Christmas bazar at the church last Tuesday. Mrs. E. J. Crews spent two days last week visiting with friends in Tekamah. Miss Pearl Gaines and Mr. Ail drew Fry of Elk City were quietly married in Omaha on Wednesdav. They will live .on a farm near Elk Civ. Mrand Mrs. John Brooks left last THursday for their home in Kearney, Mo., after spending Thanksgiving with relatives here. The women of the Presbyterian church will hold their annual Christ mas bazar in the Bee building next Thursday and Friday. The Epworth league gave a ban- quet for about thirty at the Methodist church at 8 o'clock Friday evening. George Speedie and daughter of Ne ligh, Neb., and Mr. and Mrs. M.
