OMAHA. DEFEATED

Colorado Springs Celebrates
Transfer by Trouncing
the Rourkes".
BE0U1TD RULES - HIEDID
Colorado Springs, Colo., Stpt 13.
(Special Telegram.) The. artoptedi;; "-v ;
w icnua wane, psaying incir ursi unc
as the Colorado Springs Millionaires,
took ntw life today beneath the shad
ow of Pikes Peak and slapped a 12 to
7 defeat on the Rourkes in a game
filled with hitting of the most-vicious
kind. . , ; -.
Of a totaf of thirty-one hits, of
which the Millionaires took seven
teen, there were five homers, six
doubles and a triple. To explain this
amazing hitting performance a visit
Snlth If

to Zoo park, where games are staged
is necessary. The left field fence is
low and close and the right field is
bordered by a mountain stream and a
jungle of weeds and trees. Umpire
Mullen plans to outline some ground
rules to cover these two Held dell
ciencies tomorrow.'
1 Fouls Are Lost
Prince Gaskitl was hit hard in clus
ters by the newly rich and several
times was saved by some ultra sensa
tional support. . A trio of bases on
balls also added -to his difficulty and
the Rourkes were Duzzle3 bv the limi
tations of the field, in which it was
impossible to go after foul balls and
nits sunk deep in the outfields.
' Davis, the overworked Millionaire
hurler. also was touched up for the
hard blows; but he was stronger in
the pinches and the snappy fielding of
his teammates, completing a trio of
double plays assisted him in many of
bis difficulties. - ' i
Bsttmg averages ' were sweetened
today with a venareance. Miller gar
nered four clouts out of five trips, two
being doubles. Krueger' picked off a
double and a circuit swat, and Burg
got a tour-ply blow. J he sacks were
never tilled, however, when the Ums-
ha drove cut their home runs, while
the orphans laid particular emphasis
on loading up the bags and then pro
ducing the homers'.
The Millionaires seemed to take on
new life under their present ownef
ship, with a good chance of the fran
chise being placed here "next season
in a new park, Some 500 fans were
out to watch their antics.
. Coy's triple after Fox had singled
and Jackson walked produced two for
the Springs team in the first inning.
A double play nipped a chance Omaha
had in tne second, but in tne third
Burg drove one over the left field
wall and Miller singled, scoring on
Krueaer's two-base swat.
In the third Britton scored a homer
off the locals, sending Fox in too.
Griffith got on when Kilduff threw
wild to first and scored on Litschi's
smile.
The Springs garnered three more in
the fourth on six hits and a sacrifice.
Davis was going strong and kept"the
vilitori in his power easily for the
next three innmgt, aided on one. oc
casion by a beautiful peg by Jackson
that caught Thomoson off first.
Smith singled through second In the
seventh, was advanced when Burg was
hit and scored on Miller's double to
the rigljt field jungle. ;
; Kilduff Scores. ',
Kilduff scored in the -eighth 'when
he drove a hard one that White found
too hot knd came in on Gaskill's
double to right. In the eighth Gas
kill weakened and two home runs, by
Jackson and Litschi, a double by Grif
fith and Coy's single, put over four
runs. ' i . ,
Omaha threatened in the ninth. Mil
ler drove a double to left field. Krue
ger scored both with a -home run,
Foraythe singled to center ana ire
Inn's double sent him in.

The Backers leaned on Bill Madden

the latter frame he was ierked in fa

machine had crumpled. Somebody had
thrown a wrench into the machinery.
And the Armours put six runs over in
trie ninth by a series of well played
bunts. ,
The usual scrap which attends ama
teur games arose in the first inning.
After Smith singled Dennison sent a
sizzler down the third base line. He
made second on it and Smith went to
third, Umpire Jimmy Kane called it a
fair ball. The A rmours insisted it was
a foul and declared they would quit if
the hit was not called foul. The game
continued when Dennison made the
concession. Giving away ball games
is getting to be the usual thing with
Oennison. There's too much of the
good sport in Johnny for his own
good.
For five innings E. Gurness held the
Luxus in check bv refusing to permit
'hits in the pinches. But in the sixth
the Luxus threatened and Manager
Deleware wisely inserted Andy Graves
into the pastime. Andy retired 'the
brewers in the subsequent . three
rounds with ease.
Yost Hakes Four Hits.
Yost snd Leamer were the Armour
stars. The packer- catcher made four
hits out of five trips to the rlate, while
Learner contributed two. Learner also
startled the fans with a one-handed
catch of a line drive near the left field
foul line by Mmikus.
Johnny Dennison was the only Lux
us man on the job. Johnny made
three hits out of five trips to the plate.
Both-. Luxus and Armours put Up
miserable fielding games, the Luxus
making six glaring errors and as many
bones, while the Armours committed
seven miscues. ,
Sunday the Armours will represent
Omaha against Minneapolis in the
first of the inter-city series for the
championship of -the country. The
game will be played at Rourke park.
