While the formal opening will not be until Tuesday (Decoration Day), the park is thrown open today for the inspection of the public. The park Urn season will be under the management of Mr. Carl H. Edward. Mr. Edward is an experienced park man, hav ing operated for several years past, parks around Scranton, Pa. No expense has been spared to put the park this season in the best of condition. More than $25,000 has been expended for new attractions, decorations and general rehabilitation Everything is better than ever before. A concession building has been constructed, which will house a num ber of new concessions. The roller coaster has been remodeled and strengthened It is now known as "Dip the Dips." The dips have been made deeper than they were formerly, adding more thrill to the ride; but this has been done without any sacrifice of the element of safety. A new and up-to-date merry-go-round has been installed; the many-colored dashing horses, lions and other animals on this ride will give the children who ride on their backs a lot of merriment as they go round and round. The miniature steam railroad has been put in first-class condi tion, and, with its new coat of bright paint resembles a gay circus' train. Here both young and old may enjoy a ride. New bowling alleys have been installed, so those who are fond of this popular game may indulge therein at Manawa. A shoot ing gallery has been equipped and is ready for someone to be the first to ring the bell. Roller skating promises to be popular at Manawa this season; the floor in the roller skating rink has been re-sur faced to a perfect smoothness, and new skates have been purchased. The beauti ful and spacious dance hall has been re decorated, and the fine floor, for which this hall has been noted, has been made still better. A fifteen-piece orchestra will furnish the music for those who indulge in the terpsichorean pastime. Orchestral concerts will be given every afternoon and evening. The catering concession will be under efficient management. "Tastiness, Clean liness and Popular Prices Always" will be the motto. For picnic parties Manawa offers ideal facilities. Shady Grove, as the name in dicates, abounds with beautiful shade trees, and on these grounds parties may have the free use of stoves for making coffee, etc. Among the big picnic parties already booked for the season is the Lar kin picnic, to be held the latter part of June. At this outing all local Larkin club members will be the guests of the Larkin company, the Larkin company presenting each member with a number of tickets en titling the holders to ride on the various devices, to dance and to bathe. These picnics have been wonderful successes in other cities, and a big time is predicted on the proposed Larkin Day at Manawa Unfortunately for picnic parties, it some times rains during a picnic. This con tingency has not been overlooked at Man awa, provisions having been made to take care of large crowds under roof. The en tire east half of the large pavilion is full of new combination tables and benches, the combination making it certain that table and bench will always be together. Here, during inclement weather, parties may picnic with perfect comfort. Undoubtedly the best feature of Man awa is the fine body of water, on the shore of which the park is situated. With a fine stage of water in the lake this sea son it will be a popular place for persons fond of water sports. Possibly it's a little early or too cool yet to mention bathing, but the bathing season will soon open up, and it is needless to say that a better bath ing beach than Manhattan Beach cannot be found in this section of the country. The Manawa fleet consists of a half dozen roomy launches and one hundred steel row boats, all thoroughly overhauled and repainted. The beauty of the park grounds has not been forgotten. A number of large flower gardens have been laid out and several hundred dollars have been spent for flow ers along the walks. Five hundred Ameri can Beauty rose bushes alone have been set out. The walks have been resurfaced with white chipped stone. The management desires to state to the public that the policy of the park will be "service and courtesy," and if anyone con nected with the park falls short in this re spect it will be appreciated if the com plaint is made direct to the manager. Admission to the park will be free, as usual. Round trip street car tickets from Omaha are sold at down-town drug stores and cigar stores Adults 25 cents, children 15 cents. Advertisement.
