"The strawberry gardens of Louisi
ana are a riot of blooms now, he said.
"The crop hasn't been as early or as
promising In years. Three weeks hence
strawberries will be extremely plentiful
and cheap. The strawberries now on the
market are from Florida. They are of
good flavor and CO cents a box. ,
"'Florida potatoes are here. These are
"?T"red tuber and they are of fine quality
and 10 cents a pound.
'Teas are here from Florida, fine,
fweet, riisp and with an aroma as they
have when freshly picked from the vines.

Same Officers for
the Sunday School
Moat of the officers of the First Pres
byterian Sunday school were re-elected
for another yesr at the annual meeting'
of the officers and teachers Thursday
evening, following a dinner at the Young
Women's -Christian association.
Complete organisation was effected for
tarrying on the enlarged work of the
Sunday achdofltt the -new" chorch Quar
ters at Thirty-fourth end Farnam streets.
The new parish house will goon be fin
ished, and will be used for the first time
on March 28 for church services and the
.Sunday school.
It waa reported at the annual meeting
that the school finances and membership
prospects are In better shape than ever
before. A canvasa of the new church's
neighborhood Is now being made to in
terest persona not now belonging to any
Sunday school.

As the lrnten season rolls around once
more, the housekeeper Is Interested ti
meatless cookery and In dishes that will
add variety, to the dally menu. Here
are some that are well worth trying;
M'NCKON CHF.RSK.
Four cupfuls bread crumbs, two eupfuU
milk, one-half cupful cheese cut In small
pieces, nalt and pepper.
Heat bread crumbs and milk. When hot
add cheese, and season to taste with salt
and pepper. Remove from fire and stir
until cheese Is melted.
BAKED PEAS.
One pound dried peas, one large onion,
two tanlespoonfuls butter, buttered bread
tyumbs, white sauce, grated cheese.
. toak reaa several hours and then boll
until tender. Peel onion and chop flno.
Fry to a pale brown In butter. Mix
with peas, which have been well drained,
and turn Into a buttered baking dish.
Pour over enough white sauce to over
the surface. Sprinkle with crumba and
grated cheese, dot with tiny bits of
butter and brown In a hot oven for a
few minutes.
RAKED BEAN SOVP.
One quart baked beans, one cupful
strained tomatoes, one onion, two quarts
water, three tablespoonf ula butter, three
lauiespoonruis riour, salt and pepper.
Cook beans, tomatoes, sliced onion and
water until beans are soft. Put through
a strainer. Melt butter, add flour and
cook a few minutes, then add gradually
the rest of the soup. Season to tsitte
with pepper and salt. Heat to boiling
point and herve.

SCALLOPED CHESTNUTS.
One pln chestnuts (before shelllnaV
me cupfui milk, one small onion, two
aMespoonfuls butter, salt and perper,
bread crumbs.
Remove sheila from chestnuts and boll
n water for ten minutes, then drain
ind remove skins. Cook them In the milk,
to which the chopped onion and aalt and
pepper has been added, for half an hour.
Then drain, saving the milk, mash and
rub the nuts , through a colander. Sea
son with one tnblespoonful of the butter
and salt and pepper to taste. Add three
tablespoonfuls of the milk. In which the
chestnuts were stewed. Put mixture In
a buttered baking dish, rover with bread
crumba and dot with smalt pieces of the
remaining tablespoonful of butter. Brown
in a hot oven for a few minutes.
EGOS AU ORATTN.
Blx hard rooked eggs, one and one
half cupfuls white sauce, one-fourth cup
ful stale bread crumba, one-half cupful
grated cheese.
Remove shells from egga and cut In
quarters lengthwise. Place. In a buttered
baking dish and sprinkle grated cheese
between the layers. Pour white sauce
over the eggs, cover with crumbs, sprin
kle with cheese and brown In the oven.

F1PH FLAKES WITH OREEN PEPPER
One and three-fourths cupfuls fish
flakes, one small green pepper, one cup
ful milk, two tablespoonfuls butter, two
tablespoonfuls flour, one teaspoonful
finely chopped onion, bit of bay leaf,
sprig of parsley, salt and pepper.
Cut a slice from the stem end of the
pepper, remove every seed and parboil
fifteen minutes. Bcald the milk with the
parsley and bay leaf. Cook the onion In
the butter three minutes, add flour, cook
a few mlnutea and then add milk, salt
and pepper. When thickened and smooth,
add fish flakes and pepper cut Into nar
row strips. Heat thoroughly. Serve with
brown bread sandwiches.
