MXDON, Feb. 10-Pea water turned Into a disinfecting fluid at the cost of cents, for 100 gallon Is the novel method of disinfecting hospital ships, which ha been successfully tried out on the Aqul tanla and Is now adopted In the other transport of alck and wounded. The apparatus consists of an electroly tic cell, a reversing switch capable of carrying 100 amperes, and gome ordinary Insulated electric cable, costing In all about $2Ti0. The cell. In order to Insulate It 1 placed on a rubber mat and la raised upon a low table to enable tha contents to be poured out easily. It la filled with cold eea water. A current of sixty to seventy-five amperes at lit volts Is turned on and In about fire min utes there Is obtained a solution contain ing two part of solium, hypochlorite or available chlorine to 1.000 parts. The solution Is excellent as a steriliser Tf drinking water, one part chlorine to l.onn.orio parts, and -is an antiseptic for wounds used undiluted as obtained from the electrolyser. The fluid Is besides used In the bu trier's department and bt the laundry for soaking undyed cotton and linen goods. It Is added to the ship's swimming bath tn the proportion of ooa part In J.Ono.OOO parts, reducing; tha bac teria in the water by SO per cent This use of electrolysed sea water ha) effected a great economy by replacing I expensive coal tar disinfectants, such as carbolic, cresol and the like. In the case ! of the Aquitanla the saving paid for tha cost of the apparatus in the course of a single trip of three weeks. Land Survey Made by Geo. Washintgon in State of Virginia Last week The Bee printed a reproduc tion of one of Georga 'Washington's real estate advertisements. George Washington's records of his gOT veylng were as interesting as his real estate advertisements. Irenaeua Shuler of Shuler & Cary has returned from t visit to his old home In Page county, Virginia, where he aold a part of the old family estate. He brought with him tha original deeds of two .tracts of this land totaling some 300 or 400 acres. Tha deed describes the tract according to the sur vey made of that territory by George' Washington. Apparently George didn't drive many stake, but surveyed from convenient oaks to convenient sycamores. i What waa known as the "mountain sur vey" In Virginia was made by Washing ton. Here Is a part of the description given in the deed, now soiled and yellow with the ravages of 160 years of age: "Beginning at two white oak In a hol low corner of the mountain survey and running with a Una of the same south 31 degrees, west 186 poles to a hickory, south 3 degrees, west IS poles to a white oak, north 85 degrees, east 8 pole to a chestnut oak, south 13 degrees, west ti pole to four pines on a spur of the west ern corner of the mountain survey, south 25 degrees, weat 100 poles, crossing near the head of a spring, to two sycamores on the river bank." , , "TKE PROFIT POT," ; on 1 ICO YEARLY DIVIDENDS ' Is tha title at sa Interesting little BOOKXJCT JT8T HUHLiSHBD.
