HtMls The day's receipts of hogs were
by far the largest ot the week to date,
amounting to about 2!ii cars, or SI.WI
head. Arrivals for tho three day make
the very respectable total of 47,dl9 head.
This la, however, smaller than for any
similar period In recent weeks, being
more man 2.taO short of laat week and
1.600 lighter limn two weeks ago. but a

Packera talked sharply lower right from
the outset, alHiouuh they were not in
cl'iied to make bids on earlv rounds.
Local conditions woro all in thir favor
for the Itlieral freeh suppll, s .vera aug

from yemerday. This meant over 300
cara actually on ealo and aa shippers
were not doing much early, and general
quality was rather poor for this time of
the week th y seemed to nis at Icam
an even chance to force some reduction.
Other markets. however. r ported
stronger prices early and sellers thought
vaiue.4 cunt a' ivusx to no stesnv. and
priced H eir droves accordingly. The net
result waa that up to l.itu hour In
the forenoon not a wheel had been turned.
Packers finally started the bail rolling
by picking up a few of the best hogs
at prices that were steady to not over
60 lower. They bought only a few this
way. however, and aa a general thing
they did not raise their early offera of
lOo lower to any great extent. Salesmen
hung on until nearly noon waiting for
some strengthening rat-tor to show up.
but found that buyers could not be
budged from the atand they bad taken,
and when strings finally started to
move It was at anyway 6yl0c lower
prices.
Movement wss extremely draggy even
after a start bad been md, and at
noon only a pailial clearance had been
aiade. Common llghla were as usual In
jSafavor and naturaily most of the hogs
at 11 In first bands at midday were on
tbia order. With the early market ao
dull on affair the prospectg were none
too good for the windup.
Most of the bogs sold up to the noon
hour were fully i4il()c lower, end gome
looked even more than that Hulk waa
quoted at $7.ku.U. with a sprinkling

On the Burllnrton's line across tha
country front Flultsmouth to Aih'and
last night a gorge formed In tho Platte,
near Mella, and threw the water out
over the bank and across some of the
farm land In the vicinity. It waa aoon
broken up with dynamite, and before
morning the water had receded and most
of It was back In the channel.
Around Louisville, La Platte and Ore
apolls the Platte continues pretty high,
but It is not giving the railroads any
trouble, aside from the fact that the
water Is slipping over the grade a little
north of the bridges. Dynamiting crews
are constantly at work above the bridges
and have succeeded In keeping the lee
broken up.
In the Missouri river, above Florence,
the Ico shows signs of breaking. The
Ice Is covered with water to a depth of
six Inches to a foot and Is beginning to
bulge in the center.
All along the Omaha road between here
and Sioux City and across on the branch
from Emerson to Norfolk the streams
have broken up and most of the lea haa
run out without doing any damage to
track or bridges along the line.
