HiHJS-A liberal Monday run was on
hand, arrivals being estimated at 17 cars,
or 1:1.000 head. This Is l.oOO heavier than
a week ago and almost 6. "00 larger than
for the corresponding day last year, but
about 1.000 smaller than for Monday two
weeks ago. .
A moderate shipping demand developed,
and as buyers wero not In any great
hurrv to fill their orders they were able
to get what hogs they wanted at about
steady prices. I'ackers- bearlshness also
proved to be a factor In shippers' favor.
Most of the hogs were bought at the
ssme prices as on Ssturdsy, $8.00iai8.10.
First offers made by packers showed a
reduction of as much as a dime from
last week's closing prices, and they re
fused to do any better until well along
In the forenoon. Nothing moved on this
basis, however, and sellers held back
until bids Improved, so that first sales
made to killers looked steady, or very
close to It.
So far as the desirable hogs were con
cerned It was a steady market all the
way through. Ughls. especially the
trashy underweight kind, were neglected
all the way through, and the close found
quite an accumulation of underweights
left for which there was very little de
mand. Rids on a good many of these
reached a steadv basis and as orders
were getting pretty well filled the wlndup
S roved to be the weak time of the day.
ulte a few of the hogs that sold around
noon were quoted as a nickel or more
lower, and even then there were still
some In first hands.
Hulk sold at about the same fi-rurea as
st the close of Isst week a spread of
$7.8Mj08 catching the big end of the
ssles. The top reached $1.10. quite a fow
loads selling at the price.

than two weeks ago, and a gain of 4.000
over the aame da.y last year.
The lumh trade got off to a very dull
start. Suppllea were larger than usual,
and packers thought heavy enough to
warrant trimming values a little, mak
ing early offers accordingly. Sellers,
however, could see no reason why Fri
day's prices should not st least he re
tained, and refused on early rounds to
consider making any concessions.
It proved tn be a long session, and
the forenoon was well advanced before
much of any business was transacted,
hut when the hulk finally began to move
1 t was at prices that were mostly steady.
The tendency was, tr anything, a little
easier and in a few spots prices looked a
little bit lower tlisn last week's close,

Something of a rally in tha wheat mar
