In answer to the Inquiry Of one county clerk, Mr. Pool says: "You are not authorized to publish the prlmamry election ballot form in newspapers, but should cause to be printed sample ballots on red or green paper as In former years, and In the printing of the official and primary ballots for the primary election to be held April 18, 191, the names of (candidates shall be rotated and not placed alphabetically." Is to take op the selection of candidates for national committeemen, delegates to the national convention, eight in number and alternates for the seme; also eight presidential electors. The committee appointed at the Omaha meet last month to look up the matter of candidates for state offices will make It report. According to a letter sent out by State Chairman Frank P. Corrlck, the call for the national convention at Chicago has been received and calls for two delegates at large and one district delegate for each congressional district. A petition from Hastings waa received this morning by the secretary of state to place the name of Clarence Miles upon the prlmamry ballot as a' candidate for the republican nomination fdr governor. As Mr. Miles has already filed for the nomination It will not be necesaary for him to file an acceptance. Miss Lydia Barstler Dead of Her Injuries (From a Staff Correspondent.) LINCOLN, Feb. 1. (Special.) Miss Lydla Barstler. the nurse at the Lincoln sanitarium who was Badly burned by having her clothing Ignited from a gas stove, died this morning at 6 o'clock after acute suffering. Miss Barstler was formerly a nurse in the Clarkson hospital at Omaha and left there about three years ago to come to Lincoln. Her home 's In' Nebraska City, and the body was taken there for burial this afternoon. The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Friday. Flllnas la Merrick. CENTRAL CITT, Neb., Feb. 1. (Spe cial.) The bid of J limes T. Wachob of Omaha was accepted by the county con mlfmloners yesterday for the bonds Issued by Lincoln county, the proceeds of which are to be used in the construction of a bridge across the South Platte river near Sutherland, Neb. The East St. Louis Con struction company of St. Louis, Mo., waa the successful bidder for the building of the bridge. The St. Louis company's bid was selected from among fourteen others. High Price for I'srai. CENTRAL CITY. Feb. 1. -(Special.) Real estate valuea in Merrick county have found a new high water mark, the Frank Tooley farm, located one and oe half miles south of this city, having been bought of II. A. Bay of Harlan, la., for a consideration of $175 per acre. Pos session will be given March 1. This deal waa engineered by the Stats Real Eatate and Investment company of this city. Thomas aa drlegates-at-large to the national dem ocratic convention and Peter Shea and Mr. Swanaon as delegates from the Fifth congreaalonal district. These petltlona were circulated by Mr. Carr, father of Dr. E. Arthur Carr of Lincoln, who like wise some days ago circulated petitions for Charles Bryan ot Lincoln for gov ernor and for Governor Morehead for t'nlted States senator. DIME IMBEDDED IN HORSE'S SHOULDER 23 YEARS IlAVKNNA, Neb., Feb. l.( Special.) One of the old-time cures for "sweeney" shoulders on horses was brought to mind here yesterdiy by the death of Ernest Skochdopole'a faithful old driving horse. Twenty-three yeara ago the ahoulder of this horse waa lanced and a new dime placed In the wound to cause the flesh to grow back in natural form. A small lump on the ahoulder always remained, and yesterday after the horse had died this lump was cut open. Aside from being black in color the coin was not disfig ured. The date 1S92 la aa plain as on a new coin. The owner regards the coin aa a valuable relic, having placed it In the wound himself and thereafter having faithful service from the horse for more than a score of years. Nates from Gasre County. BEATRICE-, Neb.. Feb. 16. (Speclal.) The Gsge County Medical society held its annual meeting here last evening, when these officers were elected: President, Dr. O. A. Bloss of De W itt; vice president. Dr. W. C. Purvlance of Beatrice; secretary-treasurer. Dr. F. W. Buckley. A meeting of the farmers of Blakely township was held last evening, when steps were taken for a permanent organ isation to fight the gopher peat. Farm Demonstrator Llebers was present and stated that at least VjO.OOO damage re sulted from gophers In Qage county last year, estimating the damage as low as 10 cents per acre. Mrs. C. A. Hall, wife of the cashier of the Citizens' fctate bank at Virginia, died yesterday afternoon at her home at that place following a long Illness from pneu monia. She waa 82 yfars of age. C. F. Allen yesterday sent his petition to the secretary of state to be placed on the ballot as a republican candidate for float representative for the Thirty-fourth legislative district. . Mrs. J. C. Winkle, a pioneer of Oage county, died yesterday afternoon at her home, fourteen miles southwest of Beat rice, of pneumonia', aged 78 years. As sociation of Nebraska, Thresherman, In his opening address before that organi sation, which la holding Its annual ses sion at the Lincoln hotel. President Oustafson was very emphatic In hia remarks and Instated that thresh erman like all good citizens should take an Interest In seeing thnt good men were placed In the business offices of the state. The association Is very much against the action of the last legislature, which repealed the twenty-ton 'bridge law, or amended It in such a way that it now la only neceaaary to build bridges which wll hold up fifteen tons. Tills the threshermen declare Is a blow at the theehlng Industry as the futuro calls for heavier machines for thresh ing and bridges should be strong enough to hold up the modern machines. Prof. Chase of the state farm urged the threshermen, who owned engines, to use them In hauling their grain to mar ket.
