Prices on Board ot Trade.
CHICAGO. Dec. 28. General selling to
realise profit and to close up accounts
for the year brought about a decided set
back today In the value of wheat. . Prlcea
at the close were unsettled, but Htc to
3Hc net lower, with May at S1.248,'1.24A.
and July at $1.1. Corn loat lkifrlHc to
2'V, and oata iro to lc. Prov.slona
finished unchanged to aoc aown.
Liquidation In wheat waa on a big scale
light from the start. Notwithstanding
that most of the unloading appeared to
be of a profit taking character, many
stop loss orders were encountered, espe
cially after support began to dwindle
when the break in prlcea failed to stop
at 31.25 for May. The trade Ignored
higher cables and a lessening of north
western receipts, but seemed to be af
fected by a heevy increase of the world's
available supply total. There were also
Kansas and Nebraska reports that the
mount ot wheat In farmers' hands waa
the largest on record for this time of the
year.
Corn reflected the weakness of wheat.
Besides eastern demand was slow and an
Increase ef receipts after the first of the
year was in prospect. Oats followed
other cereals downgrade. Large export
sales were aalrl to have been made, but
the news waa not generally known until
after the end of the sessions.
Packers sold provisions and more than
wiped out an early advance that resulied
from high prices on hogs. The break In
grain appeared to be responsible to some
extent for the selling, and so too wn
the outlook for more plentiful arrivals of
nogs next wee.
