The receipts of wheat were light and
there was a pretty good oah demand.
The market eold unchanged to lo higher.
Corn waa aleo firm and sold unchan-d
to Ho higher. There was a pretty active
demand for. this cereal and would have
taken care of la rarer rwetpt.
The rise In the corn market IS gener
ally thought to be caused by the wet
wea tror and unfavorable crop eondttvons
in the northwest.
Oats were steady, selling unchanged
to Ko higher.

Summary of weather and crop con
ditions in corn and wheat region for
weak ending; August 17, 1916:
In the winter wheat belt ataoklag and
threshing continued under favorable con
ditions in most sections, but some lo
calities are stilt hindered, especially In
Ohio and portions of Indiana and Kan
aaa, where damage by sprouting and
moulding was considerable. Fall plow
ing Is progressing with favorable soil
conditions, except It is too wet in re
st rioted areas. In the spring whsat belt
the week was very favorable for ripening
the harvest, and the latter Is well under
way In the central and southern portions,
wltn prospects of large yield. Cora made
rapid growth generally, and showers im
proved the late planted corn In many
southern districts. Truck crops, ranges,

by far the largest of any recent week,

Beef steers were In good demand and
the market active at prices that were a
little stronger than yesterday. Buyers
were In the yards early In the morning
and everything was disposed of In good
season. Some pretty good light yeariings
sold up aa high as 11M.
Cows and heifers were steady with yes
terday, although the trade waa not par
ticularly active.

supply and the feeling firm as compared
with yesterday.

at a rather late hour. The packer trade
