day. The receipts of wheat were exp
tlonally light today, thera being but two
cars reported in. These were quickly
taken up at an advance of one cent.
Corn waa firm and the market showed
gains of a quarter to a rent over yes
terday's prices. The receipts of this
cereal were light and the denvuil was
fair.
Oats continued to sell very readily, the
bulk of the sales today being In advance
of a half to a ent over yesterday's
quotations

showed up this morning, when about 163
cars, or 10,900 head, wero received. Total
receipts for the week to date are 87.629
head, being almoat 20,000 head smaller
than both last week snd two weeks ago,
but about 2,000 head larger than for the
some days laat year.
Shippers, who paid A big premium for
their kind yesterday, took a big slash, at
prices this morning, and succeeded In
making their purchases at prices that
were anywhere from 15o off In the case of
tops to 20&23e lower on the bulk ot the
hogs they bought. Range of shipping
prioes landed at a spread of t7.0M7.60.
The big decline In provisions yesterday
and Tuesday left the trsde In a very
weak condition, and as packers had a
liberal assr'tment to Pick from this
morning, they started out oferlng prices
trat were a fist 20c lower tnsn me prices
lliey paid for the bulk of their hogs yes
terday. Hellers were wining to msse some
concessions, but the decline proposed by
D&ckers was to their wsy of thinking en
tirely too large, and nothing was dona

partment of Justice officials are confi
dent they have nipped In tha bud a plan
to ship Isrge numbers of Montenegrins
bark to their native country to Join the
colors, it was said tonight there wss no
present Intention of preventing tha depar
ture of Montenegrins who already hava
been Induced to start for home.
Officials here, therefore, were not sur
prised to learn that 14S recruits held up
In Portland, Or., had been allowed to
proceed. It Is said tha efforts of tha
government are to bs directed chiefly to
ward tha conviction on charges of vio
lating the neutrality laws of the three or
four representatives ot ths Montenegrin
government charged with Inducing; their
countrymen to enlist and return home.
The cases probably will be laid before
tha federal grand jury at Chicago, where
much of the evidence was obtained from
recruits held up on a railroad train bound
for Canada.
The activity of the department leading
to these arrests Is a part of a general ef
fort to prevent enlistments in the United
