OMAHA AND BEARS
EACH WIN A GAME
Grizzlies Carry Home First Event, a
Pitchers' Battle Between Blod
gett and Mitchell, 2 to 1.
HARRINGTON EASY IN SECOND
An In most Instances when double
headers are played, the Sabbath i.nrKain
bill hrtween the Honrkea and Grizzlies
wss apllt evenly between the to con
flicting; parties. The Invaders copped "h.
flint affair. 2 to 1, and the Iloutiios
worked a come-bark In the second to the
tune of 6 to 1.
Tom Blodgett ai the unfortunate
youth In the first game. Thomas allowed
'but two run and four hits, which would
win an ordinary game, but Mr. Mitchell
of the. opposition was In better trim, al
lowing; but onre run and four hits.
The Rourkes counted firet In the Initial
fray. Kreen walked to open the second
and stole the keystone iwck. He went
to third on Manager Marty's infield out
and scored on Schliebiier'a hit to second.
Then the home hoys ceased abruptly ond
didn't recover until the second combat.
The Orixzlies won the grama in the
sixth. Blodgett soaked Pete Shields in
the hoof. McCormlck sacrificed and
Shields 'Imped home on Galloway's
double to left. Coffey's hit scored Gallo
way and ruined the Rourkes completely.
Thompson Pilches Second.
t'ecll Thompson was Krug's choice In
the second and he came borne with colors
flying". The Omaha fans lamped Thomp
son for the first time and agreed he was
nil right even though his name Is Cecil.
Cecil and Harrington bowled along for
five innings without a run in their little
.ilt. Then Harrington blew up and the
Rourkes hammered home three runs In
ihe sixth, one In the seventh and two In
the eighth. Btit one count was made off
hompson In the entire doings.
Of the five pitchers used yesterday,
four were southpaws. Johnson, the only
i Ighl-hander. only worked one frame.
Drnrfr Athletes Kuss.
The Ppnver gang were quite wrathy all
during the combat. They started to fuss
and fume, with Vmps Myers as the ob
ject of attack, at the start of the bill.
In the second frame Kelleher, a fiery
youth who makes errors at short for tho
iJenrs. grew so abusive that Myeia
charged him five bucks. Kelleher got off
cheap. He unllmbered at least twelve
ocks' worth of conversation during the
;vo games.
In the second game Schliebner poled &
double to left, which fell right on lha
line. Needles to say the Grizzlies pro
tested vehemently. I mps Myers toddled ;
out to the spot to see where the ball fell.
W hile the limps was pulling the spot in
bin pocket to bring it In and prove to the
Honver rlayers that the ball lit fair about
five minutes of perfectly good time was
wasted.
Today
Des Moines comes for three
games.
