Will Ask for New Bids.
The state will call for new bids for
printing the senate Journal, the reports
of the board of agriculture, board of
horticulture, railway commission and
state Insurance board.- This conclusion
was reached this morning by the print
ing board after a review of the bids and
examination of the bonds.
According to . Superintendent Ludl of
the printing board, the bonds in some
dases are not satisfactory and there are
other reasons not made public why new
Vtds wilt be asked for. The board Is
of the opinion that the bids In some in
stances were too high, which Is sufficient
reason for another calL
Commissioner Kennedy of the State
Board of Control went to Nebraska City
on an Inspection of' the School for the
Blind, as required by law. CmnmNloiwr
Oerdes went to Beatrice for the same
purpose, and also, to look over the sink
ing of d well at the feeble minded Insti
tution In that city.
Themes Makes Speeehee.
State Superintendent Thomas went to
Bennett this afternoon to speak at the
patrons meeting at the high school. To
morrow he goes to Hebron to deliver an
address before the County Teachers' as
sociation. The state superintendent's of
fice la one of the very busy places in
the state house these days. It Is no In
frequent thing to have from 130 to 3W
letters arrive a day, which all have to
be taken care of, the Intention of the
superintendent being to keep the corre
spondence up to date all the time, which
he has been able to do so far by putting
on an extra force of stenographers.

SHOOTS SELF IN HEAD

Despondent over 111 health. Carl Peters.
a Fremont carpenter, committed suicide
by shooting himself through the heed st
his home here yesterday forenn. He
left a note In the shed where he com
mitted the deed giving directions for the
disposition of his body. ,
Mr. Peters has been suffering with
stomach trouble for several months and
had been unable to do any work for
the last few weeks.
Mr. Peters was a native of Germany
and had resided In Fremont for about
thirty years. A wife and two daughters,
Mrs. Ella Cook of Omaha and Mrs. John
Weldner of Fremont, and one son, Louis,
of Pilger, survive. He was 5? years of
age. '

Tuesday of the week, H. T. Bates sell
ing out to Allison Co.. of Denver,
Col., who In turn sold to Bowman Co.
of Alliance, Neb. Dr. Butes will remove
with his family to Colorado.
Mrs. Ida H. L. Stedel, who for
twenty-fWe years has run a millinery
store, sold out this week to Mrs. F. L.
Hills of Sioux City. . Mrs. Stedel ha gone
to Casper, WyO., where she has prop
erty Interests.

LONDON, April SO. The British admi
ralty made the following statement uday:
"The German steamship Macedonia,
which escaped from Las Palmes, Canary
islands, a few weeks aro, has been cap-
turned by one of our cruisers."
