Snow
People are rejoicing, and we rejoice
with them, that the snow is a good thing
for next summer's crops, but while we
are rejoicing for the prospect of next
summer's crop the farmers and gardeners
on our land in Florida are actually pro
ducing crops that will bring returns far
n excess ot any summer crop we have in
prospect These crops will be out of the
way In time to plant corn and alt the
other summer crops grown In the north.
No one-crop country can compete with a
two and three-crop country.

ClIICAOO, March S.-Fears that uport
demand for wheat from the 1'nitcd states
might suddenly come to a halt bad a dis
turbing effect today on prices, but at the
finish the market, although unsettled,
was at the same level as last nlKht to
ISc off. Corn closed tfc down, and
oats at a decline of 'mrc Provisions
wound up with gains of Vie to loe.
Possibilities of surprising besrlsh de
velopments In the European situation
were at the outset dreaded by nianv
wheat traders owing to a decided drop in
quotatlona at laverpool. About mid-day
peace talk concerning Austria led to sim
ilar mlsKlvlngs Breaks that In some
cases extended nearly 4 cents under yee
terdsv's close were witnessed In conse
quence. Invariably, howeyc- buying of
a persistent character on ttuiart of cash
houses came. Into play on declines and
resulted in a succession of rallies.
Ideal conditions for the domestic winter
wheat crop made the wheat market per
haps more than tinususllv sensitive to In
fluence on the bear side. Widespread
heavy snowfalls were regarded by experts
as highly beneficial In promoting growth
later on and as a protection at present.
It was to the crop outlook that. In a
measure, was due the July delivery touch
ing ror a brief while today the lowest
price yet this season.
Improved cash demand steadied corn
even more than wheat. Nevertheless
there was much selling by spwculntive
holders and by shorts whenever the wheat
market turned down grade. Owing to
rough weather country offerings were
small. Oats took the same course as
other grain. Seaboard call remained
atrongly in evidence.
Higher prices for hogs lifted provisions.
The setbacks In grain ware largely Ig
nored. Futures were uuoted as follows!

Mixi-The hoavv storm, wnicn seems
to be pretty general over the territory
trlbutory to this market, cut today's re
ceipts almost to nothing, and there were
hardly enough hogs here to make a mar
ket. On the strength ot a 6toloo advance
in Chicago salesmen started out asking
figures that were at least 10?ri5c above
yesterday's average. Buyers, however,
refused to make so large a concession
and aa two packers did not aoem to care
whotber they got in or not ths market
turned Jnto a pretty dull affair. Starting
wun meir early orrers ot sc nigner, ihc it
ers finally raised pricea until they wcro
moatlv a dime ud and after a long drawn
out session the bulk of the offHrlngs
moved on this basis. A few hogs sold on
hlmiinr and speculative aocount at fully
fwvloo higher prices, but the demand fr.n
thia quarter was quiet and most of the!
offerings found their way Into packers
hands.
Bulk of the hogs sold at $.604) .66, with
tops at $6 57S- The market for the week
to dale has been bearish on moat daya.
and today's dime advance leaves values
less than a nickel higher than at the clone
of last week. It might bo mentlonod thut
nearly all of the fw loads which arrived
late yesterday weru carried over fur to
day's market.
' Receipts totaled about forty-three cars,
or &.0UO head, which Includoa Thursday's
late arrivals. Total for the five days Is
iM.'iiA bead, which Is over 17. uo short of
last week, but is nearly I2,0u0 larger than
