CATTLE There was a very fair run
ot cattle again IoUmv, especially when
weather conditions ate taken Into con
sideration. At the same time buyers
were looking for a big run for Thursdsy
snd accordingly were very bearish In
their Ideas, apparently feeling that what
they did not secure today could be had
at lower prices the dny following. What
ever may have been the theory upon
which they acted the fact remained that
the market was very slow and lower on
most all kinds of cattle.
There were more good heavy beef rat
tle in the yards than have been seen
here any other dsy thus fsr this yenr.
Cattle of that description were fully PVtr
16c lower than Tuesday. The lighter and
handy weight beeves were a little mors
active than the heavy weights, hut they
wero safely lOr lower. Some right good
heavy beeves sold up to 8-S.20. The trade
was a drag from start to finish, and It
was unusually late before anything like
a clearance was effected.
There was a shipping demand tor a
few good to choice cows and heifers, and
such cattlo as the shlpiers could use
were steady to a llttlo stronger. Other
kinds were weak to as much as l'c lower
and slow at that.
Owing to the unfavorable weather con
ditions very few country buyers for
Blockers snd feeders have been In this
week, with the result that tho market on
that kind of cattlo was extremely slow
and around 6O0 lower for the three days
this week, or not far from 81 lower lian

yesterday. The estimate was 1.1,000 head,
as against 10.648 a week ago, H.734 two
weeks ago and 4,4 a year ago. Chicago
reported a run of 7,610 head.
There was no mistaking the fact that
the packers were, ia need of some good
killers of all kinds this morning, as they
were on the scene at a nearly hour and
10:30 o'clock saw the bulk of all the of
f a rings crossing the scales on a biuils
generally luii20c higher. Owing to the
general quality of the lambs being good,
there were as many as eight or nlns
loads topping the market at $14.90. which
la the highest price paid here since No
vember of last year. The range on lambs
was anywhere from W.iVKitb.lw. Both Mex
ican and fed western lambs sold at the
top price today. The lamb sales Included
some on sheafing and feeding account at
