III of the National base ball agreement,
has been amended by the concurrent vote
of each major league and of the National
association by Increasing the membership
of the Joint committee on playing, rules
to seven members, according to- a national
commission notice issued today. . Aa

thla section and article, will read aa follows:
"Whenever the commission certifies to
the president of each major league and
to the secretary of the National associa
tion that in its Judgment the playing
rules require amendment, a Joint com
mission from each major league and one
representative of the National association
shall meet on or before October of the
year In which such notice la served, and
aaopt a code of rule for the ensuing
season. .

Austria, are to the effect that one of the
principal reasons why the Servian army
took 20,000 prisoners after their victory
over the Austrian waa that the Slav ele
ment in the Austrian retreating mrce
gladly aurrendcred, shouting, "Welcome,
comrades; don't slioot!"
Even some of the officers deserted, the
reports say. A few Austrian officers, it
la added, were found shot In the back.
Vienna is still unaware that Belgrade
has been retaken by the Servians, but
Budapest la better informed.
Emden's Crew Again

MANILA, Dec. 17. Forty men of the
crew of the German cruiser Emden, who
were left on Coeds Inland when the Aus
tralian cruiser Sydney discovered the
Emden knd Torced it to run ashore some
time ago, hava captured a col'lrr, mounted
two Maxims on it and now are raiding
commerce in the Pacific, according to
a report received here.

The season on wild fowl ended yeeter-'

casion for Omaha hunters. As far as
Nebraska Is concerned the aeason had
been at on end for aome time, aa shoot
ing wus very bad this year.
. Reports from the state record that
Canadian decks are flying over now In
large quantities, but the hunter can only
alirh resignedly, for their coming is too
late. Rabbit hunting In all that la left,
but cottontails arc fairly abundant, espe
cially u , around Calhoun, and squads of
hunters have been chasing them there
ver since the snow fell.
BALTIMORE SENDS BAND
TO WIN NEXT CONVENTION
BALTIMORE. Md.. Pec, 17. (Spex-ial
Tclecrram.) Baltimore letter carriers are
planning to send a most unusual, delega
tion to the national convention, which will
be held in Omaha In September next.
Twenty-one delegate will represent the
local association officially, and in addi
tion will po the famous Letter Carriers'
band, one of the most popular musical
