FOUR Omahans hare leading; parti in the Cornell College Glee club,
which will giro a ronrert at the American theater Monday evening,
December 28. They are Mr. Herbert H. Davis, eon of Dr. and Mra.
B. B. Darin, who plays first mandolin, aa also do the Millard boys,
H. E. Millard and J. H. Millard, 2d, and Mr. John Hanlghen, who la the
club's aecond tenor.
Herbert French, a former Omaha man and member of the Olee club,
has been engaged to come here from Loulsvill, Ky., to King the alumni
sons; at the concert.
Local Cornell men are bending every effort towards the success of
the concert. The Olee club will be enterUlued at luncheon at the Univer
sity club, followed by a reception and tea at the home of one of the mem
ben. Dr. and Mrs. Davis and Mr. and Mrs. J. J. Hanlgben will entertain
at dinner that evening, and a large ball at the Rome hotel will follow the
concert.
Mr. Frank gelby is chairman of the arrangement committee and la
being assisted by Messrs. Wayne; Bolby, Austen Galley, James Richardson,
Charles S. Saunders, E. S. Westbrook, C. A. Thomas and J. W. Towle.
The club will arrive from Denver on a special train, which has been
at their disposal for the entire trip.
Elks Party.
One of the most delightful parties ever
given by the Elks look place Thursday
vanirig at the Elks' home. The party was
informal and. the program Included u
musical entertainment, bridge whist and
dancing. About 600 people were present.
The musical program took place in the
lodge room. It consisted of gems from
popular grand operas, the story of ' the
operas being given by Mrs. Grant V.
Williams before each musical number.
Miss Minna Meyer sang , four selections
from "Tannhauser," her accompaniment
being played by Miss Helen Sadllek. Mrs.
A. I. Root sang contralto ' solog from
"Samson and Dellla" and she was most
warmly applauded. Miss Sadllek played
the accompaniment for Mrs. . Root. The
xreat hit of the evening wa made by the
"fUxoletto quartet." under the direction
o.' Mrs. Millie Ryan. The quartet con
ited of Miss Bertha Coffey of Nebraska
City.. Misg Edna Miller. Mr. Ray Dona
hy and Mr. W. E. Shafer, Mr. Paul
Reese playing the accompaniment. They
rendered this world famous and immortal
mUHlcal composition In a manner worthy
of profrslonals and when the selections
were, concluded they received a storm of
fipplause from the audience, compelling
a repetition from the latter part of the
selection. Prof. Alexander Emslle sang a
solo from "The Queen of Bheba" moBt
Impressively. Miss Edith Wagoner fur
nished the accompaniment.
' At the conclusion of the concert the
chairs were quickly cleared . from the
lodge room and two hours of dancing fol
lowed to the muelc of the Omaha Elks'
orchestra.
Jn the meantime the women and men
were playing, bridge whist dn the third
floor: the prlres for the same 'were
awarded aa follows: First women's prise,
silk hose. Mra. W. N. Dorward; second,
silk bose, ' Miss McClanahan: first men's
prise, gold-headed umbrella. Mr. Harry D.
Reed; second. Elk gold knife. Mr. N. H.
T. Jury., . .
. . punch and cakes were served as re
freshments. Vassar Club Entertained.".
v--'Mlaa Hilda Hammer wag hostess this
afternoon at a meeting of the Yasser
club. The atemoon was spent In dress
ing dolls for the various Christmas trees.

Parish Aid Society.
Tho Parish Aid society of All Saints'
church met this afternoon In the Wat-,
ties' Memorial house. At this meeting
final preparations were made for the
Chrtstmns bsiar. which Is to be given
Wednesday of next week. The members

Minneapolis are guests under the old
roof until after the holidays. Their
parents, Mr. and Mrs. George a. Wal
lace, plan to move Into their new homo
at 1000 Mercer Park road, before Christmas.

The little garden patch of II. IS. Ward
In Caribou, Mn., has long been known as
the producer of a line of vegetable curiosi
ties. Thlg year among Its products have
been cucumbers on which a second crop
of leaves are growing, not on the vines,
but out of the cucumbers, and an ear of
corn growing directly out of the ground
minus a stalk.
