CHICAGO GRAIN AND PROVISIONS

CHICAGO. Pec. 8. Absence of needed
rain in central and western Kansas
tended today to offset wheat weakness
that was due largely to lower cable.

Provisions finished fcfif13He higher.
Notwithstanding that wet weather ha
prevailed over most of th winter wheat
belt, drouth report from central and
western Kanaaa oontinued today and at
tracted increased attention. It was said
the crop there was in a critical condition,
a owing to lack of moisture 40 per cent
of the planting wa not up yet, and 10
per rent nan aproutea ana aiea. nne au
thority asserted that the prospect for
the territory named wa the worst In
year. It wan chiefly on auch advice
that the market showed aomethlng ot a
rally today alter an early aecune.
Lower cable had a dominating Influ
ence In wheat at the outset. An appar
ent slackening of export demand for thn
tlma being counted alao against the bull
and no, too, the fact that receipt at
primary points si in exceeaea those or a
year ago.
Although wet weather promised a lea
snned movement from rural holders, corn
turned heavv near the end of the day.
Hedging sales were depressing and the de
mand from the east was not or encourag
ing volume, despite lOO.OOO bushel hav
In been disposed of for exnort. Oatn

orn. Shipping ran ws stow ami in
recelnt continued to exceed the esti
