wheat was bought the last fortniKht and
that these poti hases created a shortage
that was much lamer than generally be

opening to cause the wild markets seen.
Some of the speculators who sold out
Inut week and who secured handsome
profits were anou to take a chance on
the bull side again, and part of the buy
ing was credited to the speculators.
Irregularity was the chief characteristic
of corn. Prices for the deferred futures
en.loyed a sharp bulge at the outset,
largely in sympathy with other grains,
but weakness soon displaced the early
advances, which were more than lost.
Resting sivita of the day showed Septem
ber -,o lower, while new crop months
were ,c higher to So lower. Futures
were much aff-cted by the weakness that
developed In cash. Tile eastern demand
Is reported to he pretty well filled up.
Further advances of Sti't cents were
shown in oats. The market was again a
broad affair and was featured by the
liberal buying bv cash houses. Exporters
were again busy end sales ol 7''""
bushels to go abroad were reported. Thete
was free gelling of oats by long, but the
market had little difficulty in absorbinn

Winnipeg declared that wet weather In
sections ol Canadian northwest bus
seriously damaged outs. Offerings from
the country were moderate.
Provisions were strong and closed with
substantial advances. 1'heie was further
