A New York cable received last night
reported the Belgian eonsul as saying that
he had received the following cable from
the Belgian minister of war at Brussels:
"Inform Amerhan exporters of wheat
that Belgian credit remains unimpaired
and that Knglnnd has advised that all
boat with wheat come direct to Antwerp
without stopping. That all payments will
be assured as In time of peace."
Advices from Minneapolis and other
markets of the I'nlted States were to
the effect that large orders for flour
were received, and that the price was a
acoondary consideration. The orders came
from the British government aa well aa
from one or two other nations.
Weakness was quite distinct In the corn
market yesterday. The change in weather
conditions to a rainy one over the belt
was the Principal helo In favor of the
btara. There were many reports, how
ever, that corn had deteriorated heavily.
and some of these advices claimed that
the losses aro beyond repair, longs sold
freely and some of the more daring
speculators put out short lines. There
was less pressure of September, which
gave belated shorts a chance to even up

put on ocean shipments from the 1 nlted
Mates was not to be Ignored. There was
a nervous close In wheat at 2'c lo W
under last night. Th outcome for rorn
waa unsettled, ranging from ' decline
to a like advance. Oats gained c to 4cj
net. Provisions In the end were U'jc to
boc down.
It was plain from the start today that
buying wheat blindly on war news had
come to a sudden halt. Holders with
profits, who heretofore would not stop
to consider the lack of any present out
let tor rapidly accumulating surplus In
the United Htates, were In a stampede to
unload and were quickly made aware
that sentiment In the tmdo had been
largely reversed, bearish feellnK was
further augmented by knowledge that
seaboard exporters had resold consider
able quantities of wheat to Chicago
handlers, and that there was no even ap-
froxlmate assurance of when, Interior
erminals could obtain relief.
What little reaction took place from
the day's bottom prli-ea In wheat appeared
due to reports that some Kansaa ship
ments were being mado to Canada, pre
sumably for export billing, it was said
that such wheat would be milled In bond
and the product exported to ' Kngland.
There was also said to have been a.n ac
tive mllltng demand at Minneapolis. At
the extreme today wheat here was down
SV compared with yeatorday's close.
Corn weakened with wheat and as a
result of beneficial rains In the chief
producing states. Shipping demand con
tinued active, however, and finally caused
a decided upturn In the heptember option.
Oats had a surprlnlng recovery near the
cU'se. It waa said the movement from
the farms was not nearly so free as had
been expected.

hand, and as shippers and siieciilstors
were still In the game this morning, a
fairly active trade at a good healthy ad
vance resulted. F'rst sales were possibly
not any more than MrlOc higher, hut by
the time the bulk of the offerings started
to move prl.es looked generally a dime
higher, and some Individual sales were
even better than that. On th whole,
values are fully a dime higher, and with
a fairly active movement a clearance was
made in good season.

was not large enough to meet the Inquiry,

fax with 14T first-class passengers of the
Cunard 1lnr Mauretanla arrived At the
Grand Central Htatlon hsro this afternoon.
In tbe terminal awaiting the arrival Of
the train were several hundred relatives
and friends, many of w horn had been
waiting since Sunday night. Among the
passengers was Mrs. Frank Robbing of
Omaha, whose ' husband Is 'a millinery

Mr. Robblna was in the terminal await
