third Inning Umpire (Julgley called the
game, to 0, in favor of Grand Island,
after the Hastings club failed to play In
the required time. Continued crabbing on
the part of Brown, when there was no oc
caalon for It, and abuse of umpire, re
sulted In his being benched with a fine,
and on their refusal to play the visitors
forfeited the game. Oettman has previ

of diphtheria Sunday. The family was

for the First Time
TOPEKA, Aug. 4. Kansas at holding
its fourth statewide primary today.
Women arc voting for all officers for
the first time. The names of 300,000 of
them are on thi. poll books and they are
represented by several state and con
gressional candidates. The women's or
ganizations have forced every candidate
to declare himself on national prohibition
and national suffrage. --An
unusual feature was the fact that
candidates' for the supreme and district
tjourts ran on a nonpartisan ticket and a
woman Mrs. Lizzie S. Sheldon of Law
renceappeared as a candidate for Justice
of tho supreme court. , t

United States senate and; Henry J. Allen
heads the ticket for governor.
