OMAHA. May 1. 191X
The market was Inclined to be easier
yesterday because the foreign markets
were lower, although a good demand de
veloped on the break nnd prices grad
ually grow firmer. Liquidation of May
holdings by scattered traders was noted
early in the dor. while traders were
transferring hedges from May to later
months. Minneapolis mills arc said to
have bought winter wheat in the south
west markets yesterday.
Logan A Bryan, through their crop ex
perts, issued a report yeatetday saying
that the acreage sown In Kansas was
7.4K,0H. while S32.62S acres lmvo been
abandoned. Indicating a total yield of
125,520,694 bushels. The above figures re
sult from tho average opinions of more
than 800 grain millers and bankers, who
are In clone touch with actual prospects.
The present condition Is M.2 .per i-ent on
the standing ncreage, using nineteen
bushels an 100 per cent The Indicated
ylold of 7.1(3,776 acres standing is about
1S.1 bushels per acre. There Is sufficient
moisture over all the western part of
the state to tako care of tho growing
plant until the middle of May. The big
central belt where the wheat Is thickest
on the ground, will need moisture before
that time. The plant Is earlier than usual
over the large producing area.
From the manner In which longs In
May wheat have been liquidating their
holdings for many weeks pant, und this,
too, at much lower prlcep, tho longs have
mado up their minds that It would be a
rather poor bargain to take delivery and
run the chance of disposing of a round
lot of this grain in the face of the most
rosy outlook over seen In America,
Cash wheat was unchanged to 4c lower.
Corn receipts, which Hre largely of
fresh shellod corn, are grading much bet
ter than formerly, and Omaha stockB are
decreasing rapidly. The total stocks In
Chicago today are not over 3,600.000 bush
els, with very little available for delivery
on May contracts. The cash demand Is
not urgent except from Industrial con
sumers. Traders think tho market ac
tion, unless affected by conditions not
yet apparent, Is likely to be but moderate
during the next two or thrco weeks.
Cash com was He to lc higher.
The good Etrength In oats yesterday
was duo in part to buying becauso of
numerous roports of necessity for reared
tng. Showers, to give oats a good start,
are needed through the belt The scarcity
of oats that will grade contract has In
duced considerable covering by shorts in
tho near by deliveries. Tho receipts con
tinue moderate nnd the indications now
are that the movement will not beoomo
heavy until after corn planting.
Cash oats were He higher.

CHICAGO. May 1. Reports that sev
eral largo flour mills wero soon to close
because of poor trade today weakened
wheat. Closing prices were c to Ho
net lower. Corn had a not decline of Ho
to HSc. oats finished unchanged to Hi?
He off, but provisions made a net up
turn 01 zmc to IbC
Advices that the closing down of sev
eral big northwestern flour mills was
Impending because of a falling off in
business was coupled with more favor
able news as to tho European political
situation. A prompt weakening of wheat
values took place and the market closed
at near the low point of tho day. Lower
cables, based on favorable European crop
news, formed an additional bearish fac
tor, as did the reiteration of enthusiastic
crop news from the domestic field.
A little upturn after a weak opening
occurred on account of the fact that
1,895,000 bushels of wheat delivered on
May contracts had mainly gone into
strong hands. On Uie swell there was
considerable profit taking A downward
titnd was already in evldenoe when tha
milling situation aggravated bearish con
ditions. Primary receipts of wheat today were
665,000 bushels', last year, 404,000 bushels.
Seaboard clearances of wheat and flour
equalled 143,000 bushels.
Poor demand for American corn at Liv
erpool helped weaken this market There
were fitful rallies on buying spurts, but
the general tone was heavy.
Oats, after a firm start, weakened with
other grains.
Small hog receipts and a consequent
upturn In prices at the yards helped pro
visions. Improved cash trade also aided
values.

SHEEP Hearlsh arguments wero used
on the part of all buyers this morning,
their chief argument being the high prices
on the local market as comparud with
other points. Another thing that was
more or less depressing was tho fairly
large supply on hand for a Thursday, as
the receipts umuunted to somothlng llkn
thlrty-threo cars, or 9,383 head, as
ugnlnst 11M n week ago and 6,797 head
on the corresponding day one year ago.
Kellers described the ourly trade us "a
dead one," with buyers' bids ranging
iiiivwhnrn from a dime to a Quarter lower
than tho way thoy filled the bulk of the)
orders on Wednesday, as tne sailing siuo
of tha trade was not Inclined to do busi
ness on that basis during tho first hours
of tho forenoon few It any sales were
made until well along towards noon.
The early trade Included a sale of
clipped yearlings, among which worn a
few clipped wethors that sold at tU.SS.
Around midday a break was miulu in
tho deadlock and tha best lamha of
handy weight sold about lto lower.
Among the sales were four load of Mex
icans weighing around SO pounds, that
,sokl at 18.03, highest price for the day,
as1 against a top of t-S.SO on tho day bo
fore. Tho loss desirable grades wero loss
sought aftur, with tha result that the
market on them continued slow and
draggy, nnd In some Instances showed a
decline of anywhere from lfiojCDc. Every
thing was not cleared until a late hour,
